It's plastic. It works though. Took 2 weeks to arrive - as the man said it
would. Will give it a go this afternoon and try posting a short sample on
Utube. At the moment (1) I'm bending bits of aluminuim to make a more
substantial mount system than taping the flimsy plastic lapel clip to the
fork leg and photographing the sky.

    1. I'm really eating cake and typing.

I'm currently adapting a test tube clamp stolen from school in the
early 80's, cork grips now replaced with superglued rubber pads.

PS - Maplin have the real (alloy body/proper switches) AEE MD81 on
Promo at the moment £39.99 delivered. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=285263

A lot pricier than the fake ones on eBay at the mo, but a lot nicer
imo, and this actually works more that 50% of the time, which is more
than I can say for the cheapo plastic one I received.

I'm glad you posted that. I had a butchers at Maplins yesterday and
    couldn't find it anywhere.

I can quite happily cable tie it to the mushroom or the forks.

To the rear indicator, it vibrates like a bastard.

To get rid of it, use virtualdub with the add in downloaded from here:

Woo! I've got a couple of them, but they're mid-Seventies era. They
come in useful for all sorts of things in the shed, but I'd not thought
    of rubber-padding them. Goodonyer.

Dead handy aren't they, I have one coverted to a service lamp, I can
clamp it anywhere on the bike and then angle it anywhere.

I have another one which is acually two clamped together which I use
as the occaisional spare hand when needed.

Make sure you use a decent superglue - something like Loctite 401.

Indeed. Double-ended with what used to be the clamp that attached it
to the vertical pillar joining the two. A third hand often comes in
    useful when you're working alone.
Arse. I've just done one, using Evo-Stick and leather strips.

My kite has arrived, but not the camera - the plan is to tape the camera
to my gay flag box kite [1] and using extra long string (I think the kite
people call it a "control line") take pictures up above the streets and
houses, my kite climbing high and everyone can see it smiling.

....or I may just go on the beach or downs.

Is the output better? This cheapo one I've bought produces video where the
picture seems to wave. Is that likely to be some setting in my pc or the
    original camera?

I've probably had my 8 quid's worth of fun recording my ride through
Abergwesyn (mid Wales) and over the Staircase this afternoon. I'd happily
pay £40 for a mini camera with steady output.

Tis an effect you get with CMOS cameras - google "Rolling Shutter".

I find the more rigid the mount the better - but ymmv.

I've read the notes and see the problem. I can't see that I can mount it
more rigidly than I have, it's pretty securely fixed to the fork leg. -The
problem no doubt lies in the fact that the bike is moving - in many
directions at once. One chap suggests a faster card, I can't see this
solving the problem but I'm willing to give it a go - I could use such a
card in my new camera if it fails to cure the wobble problem.

I'm also going to have a look at cameras specifically designed for the job -
    sport bullet cams etc.

    Thanks for the information.

While you're there, sort out a real newsreader that quotes correctly,
'cos it has mangled your last two replies in a horrible manner.

That only happens for me at high speeds [1]. Mined ewe, I films a bit of the
train journey today without any issues.

[1] It's probably more to do with the bike than the camera when it hits the
"vibration point" (I'll be damned if I can remember what the phrase is in
    English).
