Just read this about people running Mini-Moto bikes (or pocket bikes) on
the street in California and causing all sorts of mayhem.

So is there a mini-moto racing scene in California?

If you've never had a go at this I can strongly recommend it. It's
enormous fun as long as your legs and ankles are still bendy.

And not forgetting that this is where Rossi started.

Larger than pocket bikes, but littler than normal bikes.

  4. The writer should have talked to the police first: AFAIK, they are not
street legal, even with a motorcycle permit. This was all covered in the SJ
    Mercury last week I think.

Lots of things are illegal. Doesn't mean they don't happen. Motorised
micro-scoots are illegal in the UK both on the road (not a vehicle) and
on the pavement (a vehicle). I still see the kids riding them anywhere
    they feel like.

    Well is there?

With the rise of the Mini-MX scene, I'm just waiting for the next
"Extreme sport" to appear. BMX is basically adults on kid's bikes and
look how big that is. So why not adults on kid's motorcycles? Something
like a 50 or 80cc engine in road race, supermoto, trials, enduro and
Moto-X forms with 12" or so wheels. These would be small enough and
light enough that you could do some serious tricks on them in a parking
    lot or some waste ground.

Getting back to road race, if lots of kids rode these things, a few of
them would compete and get good at it, which would provide an entry
level for them to get into road racing. This works in Moto-X, but in the
UK and USA there's not really any way a 2 year old can get experience on
    tarmac.
