Minimum safety clothing

I heard from a newly acquired friend of mine that the Queensland Government
are going to bring in new minimum safety requirement legislation for
motorcyclists. I was told that motorcyclists will in the future need to
wear minimum safety clothing in the form of full leathers.

Has anyone else heard any of such changes.

There are various projects looking into safety clothing in NSW, I've
heard nothing about Qld and I'm fairly sure I would have, the MCC has
its ear to the ground on that.

The MCC are the ones who will be doing most of the work on clothing in
NSW and compulsiory is certainly not on the list!

I doubt that any govt would care about leathers, abrasion injuries are
not costing them the money that lower leg injuries are. I'd worry about
leg protector bars long before I worried about leathers being
    compulsory.

face it - leathers are good in high speed sliding falls. Most hospital
admissions for bikers are because of crush injuries and impact - broken
bones and broken spines. Because most hospital-injury crashes are
    multi vehicle.

  4. Dont anybody tell the government they are getting 25% import duty on leather
goods plus another 10% GST on top of the 25% new calculated price - they
might just decide that no leathers kills, just like speed.

I found full leathers (Dianese) very useful in a low speed mulit vehicle
crash. being hit from behind while stopped and thrown to the bitumen.

I would pick full racing leathers every time if I knew that I was going
down. However they are hot in the summer and cold in the winter and seem to
shrink when kept in the wardrobe.

Do you think you would have been hospitalised without them? As in
    admission not minor abrasions?

    Means more than one.

Usually car and bike (in bike crash stats) but sometimes bike and bike
and (I think) almost never truck and bike.

I've broken my nose while wearing a full-face helmet. I *did* fly
headfirst into a brick wall, mind you...

Those cuts around my forehead were from the helmet too.

    <snip>

I'm glad I had a jacket (AGVSport) on when I decided to shoulder a traffic
island. The foam padding helped cushion the impact and looking at the
scratches it was a good thing I wasn't wearing only a T-shirt. To contrast,
the denim jean didn't fare too well with holes worn through the knees and
    back
I agree about protective clothing being personal choice though. Getting a
helmet, gloves and ,dare I say it, insurance is expensive enough for someone
like a Uni student without having to think about getting extra leathers
    just to ride.

    SHIT!! FULL LEATHERS!!!!!

Being a bit of a big fella, the animal activists would be following me
around every time I went for a ride.

I would have to kill and skin about 20 cows for the leathers to fit for a
    start.

I could always just kill one cow, gut it from the arse and slip it on...I
don't think it would be a good look though.
The udder might get caught in the back wheel.

Just goes to show that leathers aren't that safe.
