Anyone got a Treo 600/650? Is it shite or no?

Dunno. I have just taken delivery of a Sony/Ericsson k750i. Reports to
follow, but it seems nice from the manual at least.

Palm based stuff has been completely left behind by WindowsMobile over
the last couple of years - personally, I'd look at a WindowsMobile based
    SmartPhone instead.

(I always used to buy Palm, but I have a feeling I won't be doing again
    - the LifeDrive is very tempting, but the OS is too restrictive when you
look at the hardware it's controlling)

Ah, well in that case, it'll be the Motorola RAZR then.

Good friend of mine has one and loves it. I would have been tempted if
it weren't for the fact that I'm (a) broke and (b) just bought a PDA
    with SatNav built in.

I kinda wanted one, but how do you write something while you are talking
to someone? I'll get a PDA and the RAZR. More toys that way.

Heh. Mine doesn't become active until Monday -- I'm keeping my number
and changing my provider. All I can report so far is that the sync
'twixed pc and phone is good.

  9. 600 = OK but crap aspects such as not very robust, and flaky audio
    quality.

650 = What the 600 *should* have been but wasn't. Much better screen,
better audio quality, proper email client etc etc etc.

    In conclusion:

    600 - Neg[1]
    650 - Pos

  10. Rubbish - I have both a Treo 650 and an SPV C500. The Treo 650's speed,
usablity, expandability and features knock spots of the C500. Batter
life is better, I can put more memory in it, the software is better and
the latest Palm Desktop synchronises quite happily with
    Exchange/Outlook.

    That's not a like-for-like comparison, though.

The Treos are PDA-sized phones, not phone-sized like the C500.

A better comparison would be the I-Mate Jam (or one of it's network
    branded guises).

  13. Err.. yes it is. Other than screen size.
Which is why I didn't mention the keyboard (superb on the Treo & crap
on the C500) because it wouldn't have been a fair comparison.
Which again suffer from all the problems of Windows Mobile - slow,
awkward and encumbered by Microsoft DRM.

Palm OS may not have a Windows-style front end on it but is a lot easier
    to extend, configure and use.

    Phil Launchbury scribbled:
    I've got a Tungsten T and a Mitac Mio 168.

    They are both keyboardless PDAs.

Tungsten T is slow, limited, PITA to get data into it, sync is crap,
don't know what size SD card it can take.
Mio is a Mobile Windows 2003 device. Fast enough, 4x internal memory,
SD cards upto 4GB, hadwriting recognition is excellent, sync is great.

I realise they're about 2 generations apart, but I've never seen
synchronisation software that works 100% apart from ActiveSync.
(including Nokia, Ericsson, SonyEricsson, Palm, Psion)

The synch software for my SE P910i totally refuses to synch the
calendar (it wipes out everything on the phone and will not copy
appointments from PC to phone), screws up contacts if they've got more
than just simple data in them, duplicates all the ToDo entries at each
    synch.

I bought the Palm Tungsten because I was led to believe that it was the
best at the time. Having now got a MobWin2003 device and comparing the
two, I'll never touch a Palm based anything again.

Oh, and the vast majority of the s/w on the Palm platform is pants, I
think due to it being an open platform, people write crap apps and then
try to sell them? The Win apps I've got seem to be a lot better and
more useful. (that is a big generalisation but ICBA to go listing lots
    of things)
I never did get my Tungsten T browsing via its PC connection. And via a
bluetooth access point it was a pain, but I did it. Currently its
useless as it isn't recognised as a compatible bluetooth device (??).

The Mio 168 I plugged it into the USB port, ActiveSync fired up, asked
me a couple of questions, synched everything, and I could browse the
web on the Mitac. Absolutely no configuration needed. Well impressed.

Okay. I just happen to not like speakerphone. Anyway, I bought a
    Motorola RAZR3 and a PALM Tungsten T5.

  17. Old and new..
The Palm Desktop that comes with the Treo syncs perfectly happily with
    either Outlook or Lotus Notes.
Despite acknowleging that your old T is 2 generations behind? How..
    odd.
Strange - because my Clie NX73V works like a charm - despite Windows
attempts to screw up the link by dropping the Bluetooth serial port
from the list of allowed connections..
