    eBay item 4592088932

It's rather a pity the seller has started this auction £400 above what I
reckon it's worth because they actually make a very nice little
streetfighter type bike. I like the look of it a lot and it has the
right bits other than the 36mm carbs, easily changed.

Kinda hope it doesn't sell and he comes back with a more sensible
    reserve.

Handily placed for the London crew if someone like WC thinks it's worth
    1200 though.

Umm I think stupidity! shall check.
Did you see my post about GS500's in the other place? known weaknesses
etc? and do you think the value was good to fair.

Umph. If I was going to have something like that[1], I would want
    twin-plugged 40mm heads, Del'Ortos, a 336 cam, Dyna coils, Boyer-Bransden
ignition, Progressive fork springs, cast iron discs and a /7 seat with a
    chrome hitching rail.

    [1]and I am, eventually.

  6. I thought it was a fair price. Looked like a nice bike. The GS500 is
horribly dated, but it's really sound - the engine is bomb proof. The
real problem is the finish, which is appalling.

Tee hee. This nicely illustrates the central flaw of Marxism: the notion
that the value of something is a function of the labour required to produce
    it.

And that gold is the suckiest of colours.

I'd want crash bars for that price...

    .... and a respray,

    and probably a different bike.

With a decent paintjob, it would look fairly smart.

    First I thought:

    You utter Utter UTTER ****.
I hadn't seen that, I wouldn't have seen that, now I have seen that and
    I want it.
    ******

Then I noticed it's not running Krauser 4 valve heads which dampened my
    enthusiasm some.

I passed on a pair of Krauser heads at a fair price a couple of years
ago and have regretted it since. Nice though that bike is, bar the
paint, a Mono RS with the 'heads would suit me better.

  16. I saw a pair of Krauser heads advertised when I had my R100RS. Pre-Ebay
days, and (IIRC) in the region of £400. Wish I'd bought them.

Rumour has it that development of the heads, and the MKM1000, was what
    bankrupted the company.

I've got the 336 cam and the Ultimate Source top clamp on my long-term
    lookout list.

    I'm only teasing Hog.

The frame was made to an astonishing level of accuracy, IIRC by MBB, out of
56 tubes welded together in a lattice. Handling is apparently precise but
    old-fashioned.

It strikes me as the sort of bike you could respect without being
    particularly fond of it.
Yeah, that paint job looks like shit.
