Good write up in the Belfast Telegraph. All the so called civil liberty
organisations and the opposition political parties appear remarkably
quiet. Then again it has been done with some stealth.
Shall we set a wager going on how long it takes ACPO to enforce absolute
speed limits at all times using the system.

Prediction: It won't be long before Trafficmaster announce their
software upgrade to full ANPR with realtime streaming into the "national
database". Laa dee daa a speed trap every 500 metres. CG125's <MSOTHPR>
    will become fairly popular again.

Mandatory jail sentences for persistent speeding can't be far away now.

Anyone still scoffing at the idea we (1) are moving into a modern day
Soviet? Sad that is should happen first in the cradle of Parliamentary
Democracy. Then again we also gave the world the Industrial Revolution.

JP's not around much these days but I saw the sig yesterday, if you are
watching I'd be interested on your insider opinion on all this.

    (1) *You* to be more precise, I won't be hanging around to suffer this
    kind of bollocks.

These criminals that "burgle and steal" will suddenly all give
themselves up? Pandering to the steriotype of what most people think a
criminal is, most likely . Interesting reading, I like the bit about
unlawful number plates, that'll piss off anyone with a small plate.
Maybe the union jack should get a stylish little hammer and sickle in
the corner, maybe a large hammer and sickle right smack bang in the
    middle?
When I've done my degree, I think that I'm going to bail out of the UK
to a less oppressive regime, where ever the heck that will be in this
safe utiopian future, free from speeders and criminals... yeh riiight.

So you're prepared to take advantage of this country's education system,
then **** off with a cheery wave?

    Nice.

Yep, I sure am, but I do have to pay for it all, and will come out of it
    with a lot of debit.

Only because it's made him bright enough to see where the future lies.

Anyway... what with the content of this article, and the Galileo project,
it's all looking quite rosey really, isn't it. :-S

You do not have to pay for it *all*.

Unless you stick around a pay a bit of tax, that is.

I think that even the thicko's at HMG realised that Galileo and GPS
style tracking was a non starter in terms of cost, timescales and the
delivery of a large public sector IT project. The appear to have hit on
a winner in it's place. RFID tagged number plates will be law before
2015 I am betting, a technology that will work once tied up with ANPR
    recognition (of non equipped plates).

Considering we already subsidise education for a slice of the third
    world it's fair play.

    My options they are open!
USA - Northern CA or WA is quite attractive but they could go down the
swannee same way any minute now.
CH, southern parts, for Europe would be my preference with a foot in
    Campione D'Italia
NL if they get liberal again and lever all this EU inspired big brother
    nightmare stuff into the canals
Good ol' Eire might suffice though, it allows one to "disappear" between
borders somewhat and mass immigration might be set to put Nationalist
    Taigs in a permanent backwood.

I think it's quite reasonable that the UK pays for its own education
    system.

    <shudder>

Could you even imagine me as a sales man? Maybe I could be planted by a
rival company to get rid of opposition, or just sell double glazing.

  17. It's a tasteless analogy, I grant you, but you would presumably have had the
German Jews wait around to be killed because they had had the benefit of
education and healthcare before 1933. If a country suddenly imposes laws
and socail controls that a percentage of the population regards as
unacceptable, then the population is - in my view - justified in voting with
its feet. I have oldies to care for, but am and would and will be sorely
tempted to put two fingers up to both this government and any likely
    successor. Making plans already ...

    Silly argument.

If Muck feels so strongly that he should leave this country, then he
should do so *now*, rather than when it's convenient to him to do so.

He won't, of course, because he's on a par with the Z-list "celebs" who
are wheeled out at each election to declare that "If $PARTY win, I shall
    emigrate". They never go, either.
