Am rather glad to hear it. Dear ol' Amsterdam has so much going for it
Well yes, pleasant NY was spent in Dublin, but that immigration is a
    double edged sword!

Who paid for the training of doctors from Africa and the Indian
sub-continent who now work in the NHS.

Not just the third world. The NHS is actively recruiting dentists from
Poland to replace all those who are leaving in April

Subtly different to actually paying for the education in the first place
    and a different argument.

IMHO they are all free agents and entitled to work where they wish. Many
of them later return to their home countries with a much enhanced skill
level, MD's to SA for instance.

I would agree however that it should be mandated that the NHS sponsor
sufficient domestic training places to cover it's own predicted staff
levels. These may or may not be UK citizens, quite a good way to reverse
the skills drain after an agreed work term in the NHS.

And in other news, CSA to introduce electronic tagging and removal of
driving licences for defaulting parents. Remember kiddies the CSA don't
generally pass money on to supported parents, they reclaim DSS benefits.
This is punishment for tax defaults.

Oh how quickly the slippery slope steepens.

  8. Yes, it was a silly argument. Muck had, however, embarked upon a course at
a time when one set of rules/laws/conventions pertain. If, during the
course of the course [!], those alter then I feel that he's morally
justified in completing the full course, taking his qualifications and going
wherever in the world he wants or can. If enough people exercise their
right to 'resign', there is just the remotest possibility that the
government might take heed of the groundswell of counter-opinion and reverse
    its divisive policies.

Boyoboy, look at the wingspan on those porkers ...

    This is pretty sickening.

I don't feel strongly, rather there is one less thing to keep me here.
It's a case of being able to pick and choose where I live, because I've
not got any dependents, and only one member of family I still talk to.
If I forget, and need anyone to tell me what I'm thinking, I'll be sure
    to page you. ;)

It is the way everyone seems to be accepting it without protest that
    sickens
A non EU one would be better.

  13. Thing is, you just never know. The country where I live is currently
trying to look "forward thinking". When I got here (2 years ago), people
were smoking in the doctor's surgery (not a good thing, I know), and now
they've tried to ban smoking altogether and they're talking about
"controlling the menace of alcohol" next. I might have to move again.

Oh, and they've started installing speed cameras and were highly
delighted when the estimated revenue was double that expected in the
    first few months.

The only way out is death.

Don't you live in a country which subsidises the growing of tobacco...
    There's a tax on spirits.

Pity the poor bugger who unknowingly buys a s/h motor from some blagger.
As he drives around his movements will be of special interest to the
authorities, perhaps leading to unfortunate consequences.

  17. Well yes.

One of the anti-smoking measures is to ban the sale of cigarettes that
cost less than 2 euros a packet. The upper limit is govt. controlled.

Mind you, prices are rising. I pay almost 4 euros for 50g of tobacco now.

Why would you consider it duty to stay? The education was charged for,
and then the rules of living in the country were changed afterwards.
