Now someone will probably flame me for this but its not just an upside down head thing, its a biker/motorcyclist pub thing. Maybe a few of you know this place. Details as I know them so far. This is the advert that the pub uses: Wheel O'Worfield Bridgnorth Rd Worfield BridgnorthTel: 01746 716208 The traditional, timbered interior and roaring fire is perfect for a winter's night, but during the summer the pub comes alive with it's famous weekly 'Bikers Night' held every Wednesday. Bikers from across Shropshire and the West Midlands congregate in their hundreds to enjoy the pub's unique atmosphere, while the hearty menu offers something to tempt every palate. The pub has been host to a bike meet every Wednesday night for about 9 years. This has never been an event organised by the pub but the usual word of mouth as biker friendly. The landlady & her son have tried to make the night as safe as possible with signs, cones & marshals. For 5 years she has been getting what she calls harassment from the police regarding Bike Night. Yesterday afternoon she received a phone call from her local police inspector saying that he hoped all her safety measures were in place. Last night the police mounted an operation involving police cars, vans, motorbikes, caught on camera vans & the police helicopter!!! Bikers were 'pulled over' in groups & many received penalties for after sales cans, tyres & the usual stuff. The police then shut the pub!! The landlady is to appear in court at 12pm today & has been told that she will be asked to return to court on July 4th when they will be asking for her license to be revoked. I attach an email we received late last night from one incensed biker who had received a £30 fine. I have asked Shropshire police for their comments about this operation & am still awaiting a reply. Contact Richard Ewels Shropshire Constabulary 01743 237491. This appears to be disproportionate, heavy handed & an obscene waste of police resources. As the landlady said," This is discrimination." As our magazine has already gone to print for this month please can you follow up this story with as much weight as you can give it. It is totally unfair that this lady can loose her livelihood just for being friendly to Bikers. Many thanks Hairnet RPM Magazine Ed Press Release by Police follows... Bikers Venue Closed by Police on Safety Grounds A Shropshire bikers’ venue was closed by police last night on public safety grounds after up to 1,500 motorcyclists turned up. The meet is held at The Wheel pub in Worfield, near Bridgnorth every Wednesday night during the summer and in the past has caused concern among local residents and other road users. It has been carefully monitored by police to ensure road safety and to reduce disturbance to the local community. Police have also recommended safety improvements to the licensee of the pub. But just after 9pm last night, Inspector Andy Thomas, the Bridgnorth section commander, served a closure order on licensee Gloria Goodson under Section 179A of the Licensing Act 1964. Inspector Thomas said today he took the decision on safety grounds and to prevent possible disorder at the premises which might compromise public safety. He estimated there were between 1,000 and 1,500 motorcyclists at the meet. “The event has grown beyond what is reasonably manageable.and the licensee has failed to implement the suggestions I recommended some time ago aimed at improving safety. “The scale of the event has become totally inappropriate for the area. There was random parking of machines on the grass verges, pavements and any available space which was restricting the views of emerging traffic.” He added that those attending had not caused any disorder and the decision was taken to protect public safety while also responding to the needs and concerns of the local community. “As things are, it is an accident waiting to happen.” Inspector Thomas was appearing at Telford Magistrates Court today (at 12pm) to apply for the closure order to be continued until the next Transfer Sessions on July 4. He will present the full background and explain why it was necessary to serve the notice last night. Taken for another forum that asked for it to be passed around. -- <--ROT13 it Spam Trap in Header GS850 Trike For animals, the entire universe has been neatly divided into things to (a) mate with, (b) eat, (c) run away from, and (d) rocks. http://borg.no-ip.com
Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, BORG (Snip). Well, let's be honest here. If the figure of between 1,000 and 1,500 people turning up on a regular basis at a pub is accurate, then it's hardly surprising that Plod take an interest, is it? Particularly if local residents are on their case about it. -- Wicked Uncle Nigel - Manufacturer of the "Champion-105" range of rearsets and Ducati Race Engineer. Wicked Uncle Nigel wrote Yebbut closing a pub!! That is simply beyond the fucking pail that is. What is this country coming to? What do we think we are doing? I never thought I would live to see such a day, I can't believe it, my flabber is thoroughly gasted.
steve auvache scribbled on the back of a napkin: It's turning into a safe haven for the middle aged, "anything I don't like is antisocial" Daily Maul readers. Making sure the liberals don't get their way, at least if you believe what you read in the New Statesman. It's hardly new, is it? I guess the same happened back in the fifties and sixties with the Biker Cafes back then. Only difference is that the likelyhood of your average smelly biker being a member of the rapidly disappearing middle class, pillar-of-society-type person, is far higher. But for our own good we should all be driving ovloVs.
It isn't. On the busiest evenings they might get 500 people turning up during the course of the evening but many call in for a bit then move on. Unless of course it's got vastly busier since last year. There aren't that many locals. Worfield is a tiny place , but the bikes don't usually hang around when setting off -- Alex Hermes: "We can't afford that! Especially not Zoidberg!" Get used to it. It's happened before and it'll happen again. These meets always do the same thing. Become more and more popular until they reach a certain critical nuisance mass and then get banned. Same thing happened out on Enville common (ooh years back) the regular Sunday meet became a victim of its own success. There has been rumblings from the locals for years about the meet at the Wheel. Just the usual relatively few 'concerned citizens'. Most people I've spoken to think it is all rather jolly. However, the moment the meet starts contravening the health and safety regs regarding road safety and public meetings, it is on a loser. The NIMBYS have legitimate leverage and it'll only end one way. I have to say that as a local, I really don't give a shit. I'd personally let them carry on, but I do know of people who live in Worfield who feel very put upon by these weekly invasions. Wrongly so IMO but hey, there's sweet FA anyone can do to convince them otherwise. -- Alex BMW R1150GS DIAABTCOD#3 MSWF#4 UKRMFBC#6 Ibw#35 BOB#8 http://www.team-ukrm.co.uk Windy's "little soldier"
Timo Geusch wrote The set the dogs on us at Margate. Actually that is not true, they set the dogs on the Rockers, we laughed[1]. Course once the Rockers had eaten the dogs we were serious trouble but that is a different tale of cowardly retreat in the face of underwhelming odds entirely. [1] Oddly though, despite the fact we were two tribes at war, we felt a more than a little solidarity with the other lot. I mean, we were all just a bunch of lads out for a ride to the seaside and a bit of ruck regardless of how we dressed on the day.
The parking warden was out at Avebury on Wednesday, along with an (illegally parked) police van. Though to be fair, they were getting more trouble from the Solstice hippy lot than the bikers. That said, I was _very_ surprised at the number of people who had either no numberplate or a totally illegible one.

Wotcha. I used to pop over Enville common on the odd Sunday afternoon. Always a few local lads trying to wheelie various 250 two strokes - and generally ending up in the grass at the side of the road. That's where me and my BSA outfit and trailer came in useful. For a few quid I'd take them and their mangled bike back home - none of 'em ever lived more than seven or eight miles away. On a 'good' Sunday I could make a fair few bob ;-) Shame about the Wheel though - seems to be the way of most large bike meets these days.
Seems Ludgershall bike night (4th July) will be without the pub this year, as they cannot open [1] due to local pressure. Serves the landlady right. She should serve "afters" with the doors locked instead of letting people cart the evidence away with them.
