Certainly was the case - Germany has citizenship laws that are a bit
odd. If you can prove that you have a bit of German hanging around in
your family tree you can get German citizenship even if you're born and
raised in outer Mongolia, but if you were born there, speak the language
like a native etc blah blah but had the misfortune of your parents being
of foreign extraction, you inherit their citizenship. Basta.

They were/are also really hot on dual citizenship. Officially there is no
such thing, but when you live abroad you suddenly discover that there
are strange versions of certain documents that have additional space for
dual citizenship. Odd, that :). They actually relaxed the rules on that
one a little - I could now get British Citizenship without having to
prove to a commitee that I'm still Boxhead enough to be considered
worthy of German citizenship as well - but once you're outside the EU
    the fun starts.

I knew a bunch of people who had dual French/German citizenship until
they were 18 and were then forced to chose one of them. Very odd.

Of course the really odd part about all this is that there are
provisions in the law to prevent them from revoking your German
citizenship (a lot of the political emigrants during the unpleasantness of
1933-1945 had their citizenship revoked and ended up being stateless) so
they've built a bunch of rules around that to make it quite hard to keep
    dual citizenship.

And here we see the distinctive signs of the eternal conflict between
two of the primary usenet groups: the Quotists versus the Snippists.
Only a little while ago we saw input from the Punctuationists and the
area is rarely free from the echoing wail of the SigSepparisti.

We'll lurk in the undergrowth for a while longer and see if the
Inappropriate Queryists pay us a visit, shall we?

  13. On a business trip to Israel, I was the guest of a guy who spoke to his
Sky Pixie on a regular basis and abided by all the rules about not doing
    work on certain days.

He had light sensors to turn his lights on and time switches to turn
them off. That kept everyone who made the rules happy.

So what are these bunch of nutters after apart from a sizeable financial
    claim.
