MoT check routine

Recently, the MoT testing station I have been using have began asking
customers to wait in their office instead of allowing them to be present
when the tester goes over the bike. Is this the usual practice
    throughout this business?

Peresonally, I'd like to see how the testing progresses, since I am not
keen to discover later that someone has not fitted e.g. a bulb socket
properly so it ended up shaking around in the general area where it
    should have been properly seated.

My regular testing place (as in three bikes tested in the last month and
yearly visits for the last five) has a viewing window. They are also
very accommodating if something niggly fails. On one occasion it was the
horn on the Mille. Last week it was the sidecar lights. They let me in
to the workshop to 'make adjustments'. In both cases the offending item
had been working when I left home. A quick j-j-jiggle of a bullet
connector under the seat fixed the lights and replacement of a fuse and
disconnection of one of the horns the other. They also let me in to
watch at close quarters when they checked the headlight beam alignment
on the Voxan at its pre-MSVA MoT.

They are used to my weird bikes and appreciate seeing something a but
different. I appreciate their flexibility and naturally they are
guaranteed my repeat business for the foreseeable future.

Yes, the testing station I've been using has a window in their office.
But watching from a distance is not the same as being next to the bike
    during testing.

A bit sad if litigation paranoia prohibits what I would consider as a
constructive dialogue between owner and tester, particularly useful when
older bikes that often has been modified are being tested.

This testing station doesn't happen to near where I live, in Surrey?
Sounds like they do what I would want a tester to do - to ask rather
that fiddling himself if something looks a bit off standard specs.

West Midlands. I found them after my previous lot folded. Always
encouraging to walk in to an MoT place and see a large MAG poster.
To be fair many on this list would, on first sight, dismiss them as
pikeys. They do only fairly high mileage used stuff and the odd new
chinese bike. Oh 'AJS' how thy name has been taken in vain.
