Motard tyres

The back tyre on my KTM is down to the wear indicators and will need
replacing in a hundred miles or so and I'm wondering what to get next.

It's currently got a Bridgestone BT90 on it and I've wrecked it in
about 1000 miles so I'm thinking that maybe something that'll last a
bit longer would be a good idea. I don't do many miles on the bike but
changing tyres every 1000 miles at £100 a time isn't something I like
doing. Bear in mind that the mileage included running in and it's only
a 650cc single so while grip is excellent a similar replacement might
only do 800 miles (1) if I'm unlucky.

Yesterday saw a quick trip to MK and a bit of roundabout GP stuff and
the tyre looked as if I'd been spinning it on the centre part yet I
hadn't been ragging it away from the lights around the shopping centre
so it can only have been 'normal' acceleration out of roundabouts.

I value grip above wear so if nobody can come up with a better idea
then it's going to be another BT90 and **** the cost but I'm open to
    suggestions.

    (1) I've got a theory that tyres fitted to new bikes don't have as
much tread as an identical replacement purchased from a tyre supplier
so buying another BT90 would be a good way to test it.

I don't normally get precious about mixing tyres but they'd be a
completely different type of tyre with one resembling a race inter and
the other a sticky road tyre. My only worry would be if it pissed with
rain and the front went for a walk before the back was ready to
    accompany it iyswim.

    But....

I've got a BMW as well as the KTM.

I've also got a proper ZX10R and I'm not putting enduro tyres on any
    of my bikes.

Continental have a range of fitments.

I've ditched the faux trail tyres on the R-GS in favour of their Road
Attacks. These are much better than tyres like Metzeler Tourance in most
situations. They seem very durable too. Loads of tread left after 3000
    miles.

The fitment guide at http://www.conti-tyres.co.uk/contibike/ lists four
alternatives, including the Road Attacks and a variant specifically aimed
    at SMs.

I need a new rear for mine too - I'm probably going to go with those
Goldspeed Street Sports[1] that Grant suggested.

Dumb question time - does my bike have an inner tube?

[1] though I'm stupidly tempted by the road-legal cut slicks from the
    same site.

It shouldn't have one but I wouldn't bet on it.
Why's that stupid? Apart from the obvious problems if it pisses with
    rain...

Good call! I've got them on my CCM R30. Grippy & OK in the wet too.
The front is a very odd profile - way bigger than the OE fitment
    Pirelli Dragon.

I had Bridgestone wets on it for the winter - absofuckinglutely
    brilliant!

    Cheers,

the bloke I spoke to at the tyre shop reckons the older LC4s do have
    inner tubes.
    http://www.aaa-racing.com/products.asp?category=S/M+Tyres&subcategory=Pre-Cut+Slicks

the front in particular looks particularly useless in the wet, but the
bike won't get ridden in the wet.

actually, it's not stupid, and I've just ordered a pair. The Dragon
Evo that's currently on the front is nearly new (couple of hundred
miles), so that can go on ebay (or maybe it'll fit the RGV250 front
that I have, and ogden might want it).

The rear's totally fucked, not least because I did about 10 miles on
it at >80mph with about 5psi in it (I thought the handling was a
little funny, but there wasn't much I could do about it until I got
    off the motorway anyway).

I'm feeling tempted by those, if only to see how long it takes before
a curious cop tries to nick me for them. I'm not certain they'd
outlast the existing snot I've been using but they should stick well
    when the sun shines.

I've got a bit of back pay to come from my latest payrise so a set of
slicks would make a nice little present to myself rather than buying
Adie the drinks and food she thinks she should get...

**** it, I'll get the slicks and buy her a pizza if we make it to
    Italy after Chimay.
