    Hi all,

I am interested in the groups thoughts about the Sydney Motorbike show, I am
looking at designing an exhibit at the next show and would like to know that
    you liked and disliked.

I would also like to know what you would like to see, ie cut away engines,
video screens showing the bike in production, on the road or track or dirt.

How are the bikes best displayed?

What info would you want on the specification boards?

    Regards

    Hi Janet,

Lots of semi-clad vacant chicks splayed all over an array of choppers.

What else do we go to bike shows for??

    .... Lisa would kill me...

P.S. cut aways are always good, innovative products, informative videos
(with on-bike footage around places like TT) etc. For me, it's often good
to see bikes on stands at about knee level rather than on the floor. Gives
one a better view of bits and pieces. Finally, I enjoy looking at custom
things people do to their machines.

Of course this all depends on exactly what it is you are trying to promote.
Whatever it is, good luck (and don't forget the chicks!). :)

You are a fountain of information
    Which one?
more info usually implies a few more details than "a bike manufacturer"
Then we may be able to help you.
    Cheers.

Most importantly, you should probably offer to sell products! It's shitty
that you go there and most of it is display only, with no sales avenues. I
was dissapointed that the Kwaka stand didn't have a merch stand ...
bastards! I wanted a friggen beer cooler!

Most people want to sit on a bike. So if you can manage it, have one
they can sit on and fiddle with. be sure that one of your staff checks
it often to make sure nothing's been broken or buggered about with.

IF you don't want to have every sod and his dog mucking with it, then
put it on a stand, about knee height so everything's visible.[1]

The boards should have what people who are into that sort of bike want
to see. For example, on a road bike I'd love to see real world
performance info, like top gear rollons from 60 to 80kmh and 100 to
120kmh. Fuel capacity and consumption in city riding.

You might be wise to use a stand method to allow serious punters to sit
on the bike with supervision. Don't let everyone do it, but let the
ones with the right "I want to buy" feel do it.

Have plenty of stickers to give out.

Dunno about videos, the Harley stand had them but they were so
up themselves generally I dunno if people were watching to admire
or laugh. I was laughing at the whole transparent "we are selling
image to accountants in midlife crisis" gig, but maybe I was the only
one...' (I note that HD sponsored the fashion show, which says it all.
    Guzzi sponsored the R&B band.)

No one really cares about how it's made, just what it can do.

Make sure you have people on the stand who know the bike, have ridden it,
and can talk sense about prices including servicing costs.

[1]I have a stand where you can raise or lower the bike, and it's rock
solid to sit on even in the air, and all of the bike's visible. It's not
a raised platform, and it can raise the bike 3 foot off the ground. if
you want to hire it for the bike show, contact me.

  10. Bah - I spent more time looking at the cutaway R1 than anything else at
    the recent show...

big (not that I'm your typical bike show punter, I'll admit...)

I meant pics of the factory, not the innards. A cutaway motor will
always get people looking. Dunno if it sells any bikes though.

How about if they slap some blue cold cathode lights under it?

Or a couple of RRR stickers on it in order to out-R the competition. Sort of the
bike equivalent of "But this amplifier goes to 11!!!".

What does it matter? If he's being employed to design a display, why should he divulge his employer?

Tell 'im it's none of their business killer. :)

Id like to see Bikes on dynos.
Put a pipe over the exhaust and extract it out of the building of you have
    to.

But I would like to see a 600 honda at red line for the duration of the
    show.
And a hayabusa repeatedly doing 1/4 miles on another.
Plus a twin of some sort rolling up and down through the revs.

    I'd go see that.
    Ben.
