Why do they scollop out the tank like that, noticed it on the SV650 too. Is
it purely to aid lifting the tank off of the bike when needs be.

Always looks odd to me that the tank does not take the same line as the
    frame.

It makes it easier to grip the tank with your leg when the bike is
leant right over. The top of your knee/lower thigh grips against the
    top of the tank.

No. It's to maximise tank volume while allowing the knees to be tucked
    in out of the airflow.

  6. I think he meant the gap between the bottom edge of the tank and the frame,
rather than the actual shape of the tank itself. ICBW.

No I don't mean the indents for your knees, I mean the cut out between frame
and tank on the lover edge of the tank... on the seam.

I'm not explaining myself very well am I.

I can see only one thing I don't like about that - the engine is tilted
too far back. It needs the barrels to be either upright or tilted
forwards, not backwards. Other than that it looks really well finished.

Ah, I see. It probably fit the frame it was originally on.

  12. Sometimes you're really thick; that's what those two black tubes poking out
of the front of the engine are for. Bike manufacturers put them there
because the engine gets them toasty warm.

    Cuh!

    Ben says...
That is a 1998 R1 tank and frame. You don't see through the gap when an
R1 engine is in there because the airbox blocks the view.

It's somewhere to trap them when the bastard's falling over and you make a

Mungo "Two Sheds" Toadfoot coughed up:
Not to be confused with the thick wires poking out of the spark plugs,
as they can have a somewhat different effect if grasped when damp [1].

[1] The boy did this one cold morning whilst on the TS50. Seems he got
quite a belt off it, but at least narrowly managed a comedy bin.
