    Hi all,
Am replacing the OEM endless chain.
It would be cheaper to not to have to buy another OEM chain and drop the
    swingarm to fit it.
I would like to spend the labour saving$, on a better chain.

    Besides strength.
As long as the clip is the right way around and possibly silicone glued
    down.
(Is a tiny bit of silicone a dumb idea ?)
Is there any other real argument against a chain with a master link in it ?
Are ideas like an X ring chain worth the money ?
Its the first chain at 20thou Kays, do I really have to replace the
    sprockets ?

I know the topic has probably been covered before but a search on google
    wasnt much help.

    Ben.

  5. Honestly...goto a bike shop..buy the chain you want...endless...and they
will cut the old one off and join the new one on for an extra 10 or 15 bucks

Or he will doit for a schooner. Either way, i dont understand people who
goto all the trouble of purchasing an endless chain and removing the
swingarm to replace their old one.

  10. I'd be looking at it as an excuse - after 20,000 km or more - to also
pull the swing arm apart and replace the bearings or relube. Comes back
to basic bike maintenance, doesn't it?

  11. I thought you'd said you were gonna do it to a schooner - but I knew
that there be trick answer, coz schooner's have WIND drive, not CHAIN
    drive.

That reminds me of when i went to the superbikes last year, on the way there, we (5 of us)
stopped over at a nice little country town right in the middle of the boonies. We asked for a
round of 5 schooners of some sort of beer, which we got. We later went back and asked for
a second round. The barowner said he'd have to ask us for our glasses so he could wash
'em to give us the 2nd round as he only had the 5 Schooner glasses!!!

  15. I remember about 20 years ago when Tassie only called the beer by the
ounce sizes, I asked for a "10 or Draught" in Victoria and got handed
a can. She thought I said "tin".

    Cheers

I was in a Cairns pub and asked for 2 pots.
    "Cans?" She asked.
    "No, POTS!" said I.
The bar all erupted in cheers as I realised that I was the umpteenth tourist
to misunderstand the name of Cairns Draught.

diode, just use a masterlink, you won't have any problems at all. I use a
520 chain on the R1 and replace at 20,000ks, and do the sprockets as well.
don't worry abt an xring $$$$$, use any good brand oring.
