it's the labour, not the materials.

  2. That description covers about 90% of the music I've ever seen on French
    TV.

Some really good stuff *has* come from France (Jean Michel Jarre for
one) but they are very much the exception rather than the rule.

Even their Prog is utterly dire - with only a few exceptions.

  4. Well yes. But it's a *good* one. And great for listening to while
    stoned. Or so I've heard..
So bad that even I don't like it.

I got about a minute into that and was thinking it was crap, but not
abysmal. And then he went all Phil Spector. Then Beatles. Then ****
    knows what.

It reminded me of an evening couple of years ago in Sardinia. Sitting
outside a pizza place in Pula, looking at the stage in the piazza
wondering what dubious entertainment they might be putting on.

A Beatles tribute act. An Italian Beatles tribute act. With thick
Italian accents. They murdered the entire back catalogue and by the time
they got to Let It Be, with the line "there will be an an-swer" (to
sound like swerve) I was in hysterics.

Odd place that. Odd names, too - a bar called Mr Jingles and a gelateria
called Crazy Art. And don't even get me started on their interpretation
    of an Irish pub.

french pop is a lot more folk than british pop (or most other places in
europe), and too traditional really for most non-french tastes.

french dance music, however (which doesn't often get a lot of air time in
france) is comparable to any other european country, and many clubbers
would probably be surprised how much of the stuff they listen to normally
is french: bob sinclar, modjo, air, stardust, daft punk, as well as artists
they wouldn't be surprised about: etienne de crecy, mr oizo, dimitri from
    paris.

I'm impressed by myself. Despite living in the country, I have to say
that I've never heard of any of them. Not one.

Which probably won't come as a great surprise to anyone.

Not even Bob Sinclar, Air and Daft Punk?

    I suppose I shouldn't be surprised.
