Sensationalist load of shit. When every car has ABS and traction control
maybe then it can be bleated about like that. I wouldn't mind ABS and
traction control but the fact remains I can cope without it. I don't
like driving cars with ABS etc that much either.. so why would I want
the "fun" taking out of biking ?

One reason people ride bikes is "because they're cheap". Adding all that
    increases cost .. :)

    From the rubbish:-
“No one has accused Porsche and Ferrari of building boring cars since
they embraced traction control and anti-lock brakes."

OK, Porsche and Ferrari build boring cars. Awfully fast, but boring as
bat-shit. BMW and Mercedes aren't far behind.

My car has ABS and Traction Control and I dont really notice them in 99% of
my driving so I really can not see what is not to like or dislike.

I have had 3 bikes with ABS, no one uses brakes leaned over in a corner to
the extent that ABS would be an issue.

Zaktly. There's times (such as when heading for an impact) where it may
be better to deliberately lowside the bike rather than hit that nice
rock sticking out of the wall at head height upright.. Anyway I'm sure
we can and will argue the point endlessly :)

Under what circumstances would you expect to be braking hard enough
while leaned over in a corner to activate the ABS?.. and even if you
did, and it did, would you prefer a wheel to stop rotating than to
    continue rotating mid-corner? *boggle*

I would suggest it would be a better plan to _not_ aim at the wall with
    the head-height rock? YMMV.

Generally yes - what I mean is if you're in that sort of situation ..
I'd rather have what little control is left - mine. :)

ABS helps you maintain control. You said in that situation you'd rather
crash than maintain control. I can think of many situations where you'd
be better off with ABS than without, you thought of one situation where
you'd rather crash and use that as your justification against ABS
altogether. Of course it makes sense if you only plan on crashing where
there are head-height rocks in walls.. so I won't completely discount
    your thinking.

But surely if you used all that riding knowledge that you have in excess
of the bike designers, you would brake correctly, you would never lock
up the wheel, the ABS would never activate and you wouldn't be worried
about outwitting a German engineer while you were busy doing other
things. I can't understand what you're so unhappy about.

I have ridden many thousands of kilometres on bikes with ABS,

    1990 K1 BMW,

    1993 K1100RS BMW

    1994 K1100LT BMW

And I have just purchased a 2007 R1200GS Adventure and ticked the ABS Box.

The ABS has only activated on these bikes once, on the K1100LT in a time of
severe emergency, it's activation certainly saved my life and possibly the
lives of 2 other motorcyclists (you know who you are) I find those who
criticise ABS on bikes have never ridden for any distance on a bike so
fitted. If you think your riding skills are honed to perfection and you can
react in a microsecond in an emergency then Sir you may not need ABS, for
mere mortals such as myself who are subject to the vagaries of changing
weather and road surface and interact with a range of road users it is a
    unseen and welcome safety net.

You pay your money and you make your choice.

  14. That guy who lowsided in front of his mates all those years ago and
came up with the story that he did it *deliberately* to keep himself
    from going over a cliff/into a tree/under a truck/whatever because his
ego wouldn't let him admit he just fucked up has a lot to answer for...

I rode a BMW f800 with ABS, and the brakes were brilliant. Didn't feel
the slightest bit different to non-ABS brakes in normal usage

I've had one where dropping the bike was better than being on it - and I
dare say both I, and Fritz came out of it unscathed - had I not dumped
the bike I'd still be in hospital now, and I dare say Fritz'd be in the
great wrecking yard in the sky.. as it was he was unmarked.

Admittedly just before said moment *I* fucked up on an unfamiliar road
but there are times when staying on isn't the best course of action.
