    hi,
I walked to my bike this morning to find that someone broke my ignition
lock ! so I cant start my bike anymore.

Any pointers to a reasonable towing company, since I got to tow it to
the shop for a new ignitionL

The last time I paid 50$ for 5 miles.Isnt there something like AAA
where they take a yearly membership of 50$ and tow bikes 3-4 times?
    thanks

Those days are long gone. It now cost a minimum of $75 just to put it on
the truck. Your best bet is to call around for pricing. The last time I
did this, I was quoted prices ranging from $175 to $350. There seems to be
no rhyme or reason to the charges. The cheapest was actually the best tow
company around, picking me up in a brand new diesel flatbed.

As for triple A, forget it. NorCal AAA doesn't do motorcycles at all.

  8. Check "towing" in the yellow pages. A couple of services way they
handle motorcycles. I recently used BC towing and was charged $83
for about 7 miles. I might have done better but was happy to get
    the bike home quickly. (408) 888 9174.

You might also ask the dealer. Seems possible that they could either
pick up the bike or set you up with somebody.
Plan C would be to rent a trailer or truck and deliver it yourself.

Couldn't a locksmith straighten the lock problem out - and maybe be cheaper
than a tow and a dealer? I know some BMW locks are like Honda or so I was
told when a locksmith changed out my tumblers on my bike. Charge was only
$15 to do it at his shop; or a service callout to do it was around $55
    during non-rush hours.

There's AMA's Mo Tow. $25/year for members (AMA membership is $39/yr).
    http://www.ama-cycle.org/roadride/assist.html
I had them for 1 year but never had to use them, so I don't know how good
they are. For a bit more $ they tow your car also.

If you have a Honda, there's Honda Riders Club and they have a roadside
assistance/towing program. I think it costs about the same or a bit less
than the AMA/Mo Tow package. I have them now but haven't had to use them
    yet (knock on wood).

Says who? I had my Dad's bike towed outside of Coos Bay last September
and AAA didn't seem to have a problem.

  12. Watching the tow-guy put my bike onto his trailer when this happened
to me, all I have to say is: DAMN he earned his money...

You CAN do it. THe key is to use the sidestand as a pivot: Roll the
bike forward/back, then pivot on the sidestand, repeat...

Is Coos Bay Northern CA? I didn't think so, CSAA/AAA will not tow a bike
    in this area.

True, I haven't had the need for a tow in California.....yet, so I may
    get a nasty surprise someday.
