Seems as though I have attended so many political gatherings these past few
months, they all commence to run together.. It is extremely important for
the "wannabe" politicos to be friendly to the issues that I believe affect
all of us.. Motorcyclists and the "Other" ones, alike.. Regardless of the
particular persuasion of the candidate I am addressing, I have found that it
simplifies things to be direct and to the point.. So.. as a biker, I will
ask first.. "Are you sensitive to motorcyclist's issues?" As a Veteran, I
will ask.. "Give me a brief explanation of your dedication to the issues
affecting our warrior and heroes ?" I think you get the idea.. Seemingly..
these candidates, republican and democrat alike, haven't been asked direct
questions before.. Some stammer and splutter while they either look at their
notes or look around to see if someone is going to clarify the question.. I
must say that few have done little more than generalize an answer to my
questions.. A couple of the candidates have responded with direct responses
and given concise and very clear answers as to their intents and purposes to
serve us all .. One lady, in particular has impressed me this week.. She is
running against a "rubber stamp" incumbent who does a piss poor job of
representing his constituents, rubber stamping any legislation that is
beneficial to the special interests in our state..The response she gave for
the issues affecting motorcyclists was to the effect of an open door policy
that would give access to any of her constituents .. She declared that she
must admit, she had little experience with motorcycles and had never ridden
one.. She furthur stated that her policy would be to objectively examine any
problem that her constituents presented to her and that she would support
any legislation that would benefit them.. The lady was dressed in a slack
suit and was well within legal age of choice..(40ish).. I then suggested
that she participate in her first motorcycle experience and take a short
ride with me.. She accepted and I instructed her in the basics, mounting,
holding on, and just enjoying the ride without leaning or undue swaying.. I
took the pretty lady for a nice comfortable ride and even though it was a
bit nippy, she quickly adjusted and I could tell she thoroughly enjoyed
it..When we returned, she was exuberant and elated with her first motorcycle
experience.. This very impressive lady assured me that if she were elected
to office, her priorities would be to communicate with the various biker
groups in the state and consider, very carefully, any of their suggestions
or proposals dealing with legislation.. Thank you ma'am.. you can be assured
that your name will be included in my future addresses as a candidate for
office and you can count on my full strength support in your campaign for
election.. These are the candidates which we can count on to represent their
constituents .. I hope to see this lady go onto bigger and better things in
    our government..
