    Motorcyclist clocked at 245km/h
    January 3, 2005

A MOTORCYCLIST caught doing 145km/h over the speed limit has led
Queensland police to appeal for road users to slow down.

The rider was clocked travelling at 245km/h in a 100km/h zone near Ayr
in the state's north yesterday, police said today.

"That sort of behaviour is totally dangerous," state Traffic Support
    Branch inspector John McCoomb said.

He said he expected the motorcyclist to face a dangerous driving
    charge.

At least 10 people a day in the past three days had been caught at
40km/h or more over the speed limit, risking heavy fines and even
    jail, he said.

He urged motorists to slow down.

Five people have died on Queensland roads so far over the holiday
period, which Insp McCoomb said was a decrease on last year, in terms
    of fatalities and injury accidents.

But he said there was concern over speeding and drink-driving
    offences.

"What is of concern for us is the number of drink drivers that have
been detected and particularly the speeding offenders," Insp McCoomb
    said.

One driver was breathalysed at 0.344, nearly six times the legal
    blood-alcohol limit.

On New Year's Day, 338 drink drivers were booked in the 24-hour period
starting at midnight on December 31, a marked increase on the numbers
    last year.

"Unfortunately, we also had a couple of drivers being detected and
then detected a second time in the same night," Insp McCoomb said.

A total of 18 people died on Queensland roads in the holiday period in
    2003-2004.

Funny how this one didn't even get a mention in the local rag today after
yesterday's headline and editorial comment about the one doing 224 near
    Ingham.

Maybe they think they've started a competition...

Well, the time I got stopped on the Turbo Kwaka, it had been indicating
about 255 kph, but I really didn't believe that.

The police person would only say "in excese of 200 kph".

Back then (a while ago) I don't think their radars went higher than 200 kph.

Not me! (I don't even like beets!)
(although maybe just before I jumped on the brakes at Doohan Corner I
might've touched 245 on my Triumph Sprint; the speedo was far to blurred to
    read!)
I did the old ton a few times just-to-see-what-it-was-like and I think I
sat on 200 for a hundred km or-so during the nightmarish trip home from the
GP in 1989 but mostly I stay within the speed-limit + gst.
(although I did 157 towing the trailer home from Karuah just so gNat would
have something to be shocked about next fuel-stop when she pressed the
    top-speed button on the BC800).

Besides; once you've done a track-day or two it just seems pointless to
    ride hard on the road!

Seems the dude got away with it after all. A 'friend' in the know, said
that the photo was blurred to the extent that identification is nigh on
    impossible.

well the one I'll admit to because it's a matter of court record :-( was
215km/hr however I'd grabbed as much brake as I'd dared when I spotted
the cop car on the horizon....

    JL
(I don't think ZZR1100s do genuine 245s though do they ? indicated is
    usually different to actual...)

"every K over is a killer", so he should be dead like 145 times right ?

    Yet he lived...

    And they're all alive too...
Although most of them make home without incident...
    But he didn't crash...
    None of them crashed either...
So obviously they can drive alright when pissed...
And 13000 people got punished for it. Can you imagine if this kind of logic
was used in other areas of law?
Is there any other part of the legal system that uses such sparse, wonky
    statistics to punish people?

    I haven't any proof but I believe ZZR11s are good for 2y0 or 280.
They should do 245 in 4th!!

    Update;

Local rag now claims that the original rider near Ingham was actually doing
the 245, not the originally reported 224. Nothing mentioned about the 200km
and 24 hour discrepancy between reported incidents though...

The cunts couldn't lie straight in bed...
