Hi - I thought I'd announce the "Motorcyclopedia" project
(www.motorcyclopedia.com) and see if anybody is interested in participating.

Before you rush off and be disappointed by the lack of content, please let
me say that it is less than 2 weeks old, and the underlying software only
began to work properly 2 days ago. Article writing really only began today
(!) However we have already assembled a team of 10 people to contribute and
some articles are starting to appear. We've also acquired over 100
registered users already, which surprised the hell out of me, as the site is
    so young.

The underlying software (dotnetnuke) is a "collaborative authoring
environment", which means that authors can upload their work in real time
(once they are given security access). This is a significant improvement
over the traditional "write a web page - email it to an administrator -
administrator FTPs it to a server" approach.

We are looking to expand the editorial team, so I am posting to see if
anyone is interested in contributing. The only reasons for contributing that
    I can think of are:

1 - You enjoy writing about motorcycles
2 - You are hoping to establish a career in Motorcycling Journalism
3 - You like contributing to open-source projects
4 - You have no friends and way too much free time

If you meet one or more of the above, we'd love to hear from you. The
current team of writers are all from Australia, and I'd like to see that
balanced out a bit, particularly in the area of 'motorcycle tourism'.

The phase 1 objective is to have a web equivalent of a Hayne "Motorcycle
Basics" manual, a comprehensive Beginners guidebook (riding techniques,
gear, getting a licence, bike choices, etc) motorcycle history and
motorcycle tourism information. Phase II will include bike reviews, racing
reports and a guidebook for maintenance and repairs. When you get there
you'll be able to see a basic version of the overall framework.

Having said all of that, we are in no position to start turning stuff down -
if you want to do a lengthy series of articles focused on the repair and
maintenance of your 1946 Spagthorpe Alsatian, you will be most welcome.

We are hoping to formally "open" the website by December 1, 2003. If any of
this interests you, pleae feel free to swing by the site.

I also want to add that I personally am no great expert on motorcycles. But
I love them with an deep and abiding passion, which is where the motivation
    for this project stems.

    Regards
