HI - I'm still working on my motorcyclopedia project which has grown to an
enormous 2 (yes two!) articles. I spent most of the last week trying to
master this 3D animation software and I've more or less got the hang of it.
My 4 stroke engine animation only took me a few hours, but that four hours
came only after I spent all week just trying to get the basic skills
    together.

Anyway, people are welcome to have a look at the articles and to make
comments/corrections. Please remember they are aimed at absolute novices,
and not the learned elite of aus.moto.

    Engines - the basics.

click on 'Motorcyclopedia' and click on "How">>"How Bikes Work.

Nice suck-squeeze-bang-blow diagram. Wozzat little bit out of
the flywheel for, just to make it look like it's turning?
The alternative would be to use a 'real' single crankshaft as
a model, where it's asymmetric to offset the weight of the piston.

In what way? Apart from the fact that it's an animation of a 4 stroke
    engine?

Here's the link - please tell me where the similarities are.
    http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine1.htm

I spent a lot of time working on that and I built it up from a blank canvas,
and I don't appreciate aspersions that I copied it in any way.

That comes up in the next diagram. The purpose of this one is to demonstrate
the simplest possible 4 stroke engine. The next article (being written now)
explores what's wrong with this diagram, as a basis for exploring how to
improve it. The balance problem is a major part of that.

And yes - a blank disc is hard to animate, hence the little chip to prove
    it's turning.

Of course it isn't - I would hope that all diagrams of an engine would have
basic similarities. But I made that animation by myself entirely, I don't
steal other people's work and I didn't appreciate being accused of
    plagiarism.

I gave PHP serious consideration but ruled it out on the grounds that I
don't know PHP and didn't want to bother learning it. True and genuine
    laziness.

But thanks for your whinging, it's as close to appreciation as one gets in
    aus.moto :)

I like the layout, very clean and minimal. Having the last updated date on
everything is a oft-missed and very valuable item. Not sure why the panels
are able to be collapsed as they still consume horizontal screen space.
Interface seems quite responsive, but then I am on adsl. High marks from a
web-design point of view. Yes I am a programmer.

Well thanks - I most certainly am NOT a web programmer - I stumbled around
on my own a lot. I'm using DotNetNuke which is an open-source portal backend
(www.dotnetnuke.com) and then I added a bunch of stuff.

There are a lot of things I don't like, the user registration process is
clunky and I don't see the point of being able to minimise something, I'd
rather just get rid of it.

    But it's early days...

Thanks to whoever commented that the Torque article was too academic and
didn't cover the practical relationship between torque, HP and motorcycles.
That is in the process of being fixed.

I was at a shopping centre last night and they had one of those bench
stalls selling books that nobody wanted. There was one fairly thick
book about Time Management and I thought "I'd never have the time to
read that". There was another about how to get over procrastination
and I thought I'd come back later.
