Moving other people's motorcycles?

I came back to my bike today to find someone had moved it. Is this normal?
I got the last park right on the no parking post this morning and when I
came back I had been shifted a few bikes in. This part didn't bother me, but
whoever did the shifting decided that 2 or 3mm was enough of a gap on each
side and I was stuck as to how to get my bike out. Eventually I had to stand
in front of it and drag it forward while still on the on-stand angle, all
the while praying I didn't knock the bikes adjacent and also hoping like
hell no car came flying up the road and took me out.
Can anyone explain why anyone would do this?

  3. two words...Wheel lock...
these are very inexpensive (ranging from $30 to a few hundred) and deter
    shit like that.

if someone can move your bike, what stops them from just wheeling it home?.

Or something? I'm Norsk - we beat the Swedes in most anything. It wouldn't
surprise me if some swede was being overtaken in a rally car or being shown
the rearside in a crosscountry ski contest right now.

Except for car productions & mobile phones, that is.

Full page ad on page 30 of the (freebie) December 2003
    'cycletorque' magapaper (www.cycletorque.com.au) that
I picked up from a bike shop somewhere in the last
    couple of days...

'Bikebiz', 7-11 Gt Western Hwy Parramatta (02) 98913299
have two brands, "Junior disc lock" and "Titan disc lock"
on 'special' for $29.95 each (was $40 and $45 respectively).

Saw similar stuff on the shelf at Sydney City Motorcycles
Lane Cove this afternoon for around a hundred bucks.

In both cases, curly 'reminder' cord seems to be extra $$.

    Hope this helps,

So these 'Swede' things you speak of, are they something
    like 'Kiwis'?

I have a U lock and bought it from a cycle shop
$60 but that was 5 years ago
U lock is super tough and more visible than a disk lock.

Many years ago, before they painted little lines on the road to tell you
where you should park your bike, I used to pork mine in the bikepark at
    Light Square in Adelaide.

The frist bikes would park rather far apart, as more people came, there
wasn't enough room, and the convention was that you didn't use a
steering lock or disk lock so that your bike could be moved if need be.

Never had a problem, never saw a bike fall, never saw one scratched.
Mine was seldom moved much, a few inches either way if that.

A very dodgy looking character once lent me the priceless gem that 2 disk
locks (one on each wheel) will prevent almost all bike theft as most thieves
aren't prepared to pick the whole bike up and carry it away. With only 1
lock (on either wheel), it's easy to knock it into neutral (if you've locked
the front) and wheel her away. 2 locks will make life *much* harder for the
    &$%^#*$ $(*#&$@* @#$(@!!@# (*&&%%^@s.

After losing my last baby, I use 2 dick locks and a VERY heavy chain.

    Hope this is useful.

    Cheers,

  20. I got one of those D shackle locks too..big heavy duty thing. Too bulky to
carry around is my only problem with it.... but they retail for near to and
even over $100 now. But i got my disck lock (Kryptonite brand) from
Southport Yamaha* for roughly $39.95. Its yellow...haha.
