I knew I'd made a good move putting in an offer for a house in Spain when I
returned to the news that the british gubmint wants to send snoopers into
everyone's homes to measure up for the reintroduction of window tax and count
    your radiators.

Anyway, I'm off to live in sunny Andalusia where brekkers can be picked from
the trees and the bendy roads outside my new mountain home are nearly always
    dry.

I have several spare bedrooms available for guests so I hope some of you
might call by for Sangria and sun, it's only 40kms inland from Malaga
    airport.

Let me guess.... you've got enough change over to buy some horrible old
    Brit wreck as well?

Heh, I'll be taking the Matchless with me I think. Money will be a bit tight
for a few months after I do the deal, but I should be sitting pretty by
    autumn.

  6. I am deeply envious. Felicitations, anyhow. I'd say that I hope it goes
    well, but it's bound to.

I've just returned from a long w/e away in sunny Spain. The friends we
know who have lived there for a while just cannot believe what is going
    on over here.

I fear I may not be too far behind you in the 'lets **** off' stakes.

Loved the Andalusian area after a holiday riding (Horseback) through the
groves and around the areas the Tourists didn't get to normally see.
Lovely scenery, fair weather and fine horses.
Best of luck matey I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

If you ever need some assistance with building/repairing/refurbing anything
to pay for a week or two out there gissa shout.
    Email details available upon request.

Well done for escaping. My parents have just returned from their latest
house hunting trip in Italy, & have bought an old farm in Umbria. So
that's my cheap holidays sorted for a while, & permanent exit route
    when required.
How many trail bikes have you got...

I like it inland much more than the coastal strip. Have you been off the
    tourist trail much?

Nice one Robbo. There are a couple of things I need to do which will need
some extra hands so I may well take you up on that offer. drop me a mail to
the address in the header but replace 'spamtrap' with 'rog'

    @mid.individual.net:

    Sounds nice.
I'm going to build a 'stable' on the acre I'm buying outside the village and
start collecting/refurbing them. I'll take my running Matchless and my
Rickman Mettisse in kit form with me.

I still have a set of brand new G80 valves and guides gathering dust on
the shelf (would you believe I used to be Secretary of the AJS/Matchless
OC back when they had 90 members world-wide).

Yours is pre-AMC though I think, so no good to you presumably:
    G & S 11290 KE Exhaust (V209) Matchless G80/AJS 18 1960-
    AMC part no 026029
    Inlet to match.

<adopts late new year resolution to clear out a load of hoarded stuff>

I really ought to donate them to my old mate that still has a lot to do
    with the spares scheme.

Loads of old trail and enduro stuff available round 'the chateau' area.
I am resisting the temptation to snap up some of the stuff I see
advertised on postcards in the local supermarket.

    Yep, a '49 swingarm 500

DO move thye stuff onto the spares scheme though, it'll improve your karma.

Importing bikes into spain is expensive, even old secondhand ones, and the
flipside of moving to a country where the beaurocracy isn't going to be big-
brotherised anytime soon is that it's slow and inefficient.

Just saw a tidy XT600 with only 7000kms on spanish fleabay for 1000 euros.

    That'd do nicely.

My reasons for going are many and various, but it adds up to quite a
    simple equation:

I'm hacked off with the british employment situation and housing
market.... and taxes, and weather, and prices, and crime levels, and the
job I applied for with the YAA seems to have fallen through, and my
relationship is on the rocks because I've got no money coming in and the
state hasn't given me a penny since I broke my spine.

I love mountain walking and riding in Andalusia and I can finance a nice
old house in a beautiful area from my one bed back to back in urban Leeds
and cover the mortgage with the rental income. It looks like I might be
able to make a small living doing guided walks and various other stuff
too. I've met loads of great people out there who seem to be getting on
with life doing stuff they enjoy: Horse training, motorcycle tours,
writing books, cheffing for restaurants etc.

Time to get off my aching back and go for it. You only get one life... and
I'm lucky to still have mine to change....
