Girona is just one hour away from Barcelona, so there is no problem for
picking. My parking space in Barcelona is full, but neighbours could
    cope for a few months.

Feck orf, that's older than me FFS!
Well that sounds OK, but how old does she look?

  3. It's said in passing. Kind of "Hello and goodbye". I didn't know you
were a student of Spanish? How long have you been learning it? Perhaps
    we could compare notes.

  4. Yup. In this part of Spain (the cheap bit) most of the tiresome brit
expats are northerners. Scouse accents and tattoos abound.

    Welcome.

  5. Do you know if they're going to apply for membership of the EU now they
are a "nation"? Obviously, they can't expect any more huge EU funding
    until they do.

Heard similar arguments before. Then argued that if we do no longer
enjoy Spain's rights then we should'nt be bound to Spain's duties, then
let us be a country with zero debt, woo-hoo! :)

Actually, the EU funding is an income of money, but then there is a
loss which is funding other regions in Spain. In Germany it is well
known which laenders fund which other laenders, but in Spain there is
no way to know it, and the interest of hiding this data each time we
demand it can give some clue.

  9. You refer of course to "Bobadilla Estación" as opposed to "Bobadilla".
It's like the Crewe of Andalucía.

It's going as is Antequera station.

The reason? You'll have to ask Sr Chaves and his cronies. There have
been protest marches but they were ignored. As is the opposition to
    Antequera airport.

  12. Joinery factory round the corner - they arrive full of glue, the
remnants of which are easily steamed out.

  13. Only drawback to a standard IBC tank is the HDPE material - it's only
good for up to 60degC; above that it gets all silly and falls down. If
you plan to heat a tank you could try to find a SS one or simply use a
normal steel job (ex oil tank) with static fluid and corrosion
    inhibitor.

Ah, fair enough. A bit of effort with the old steam gun and save a packet.
Nice one. Not as if PVA is particularly obnoxious anyway.

I noticed a small protest march as I walked to Alora from El Chorro the
other day. And some slogans painted on the water deposits saying
    "AVE no - Agua si"
Some sort of opposition to the new high speed train for whizzing Madrids
well heeled to the coast in 2.5 hours. Bet it won't serve local stations
    anyway.

Did I say that? But the expression is common to several other
Latin-based European languages, including French and is also used
commonly by Swiss-German speakers. I'm interested in how expressions
like this are used in different cultures and contexts, hence the
    question.
Probably not. I did learn some Spanish some years ago and was able to
get by to a reasonable level, though probably much lower than you're
currently at. Similarly Italian, although there I learnt it in a very
grammatical way, which also helps with French etc.

But in a way I tend to think of all these languages and dialects as
variations on a theme. Some recent discussions on Catalan hacve been
interesting, for example, as it occupies a linguistic area based on a
buch of Italians who owned property in France and then also in parts
of Spain and migrated their own dialect to fit.

I therefore don't actually believe thete's any such thing as 'pure'
language, given that even different areas of France or (Castillian)
spain have their own local usages and dialects. The subtle differences
    of meaning are fascinating though.

Still getting better, but still not 100%. Been out for some (gentle)
mountain biking the last coupld of weekends, given how spring-like the
weather has been, and will be spending Saturday on the Ski slopes for
    the first time.

I did a bit of backpacking in the Siera de las Nieves last week and have been
riding around on my electric bike too. Glad to hear it's coming back together
    (no pun intended) for you.
