Hmmm, anyone got a nice old big domestic copper tank with a couple of coils
    in for solar and backboiler?

  2. <trundles downstairs and back up>

It contained Aerolite V and according to the label it's...

    Mildy carcinogenic
    Harmful to skin
    May cause breathing difficulties
    Will cause eye irritation
    etc, etc.

But that's all right because the security bloke said so. :)

Actually, he told me there's a ready market for the empties for use in
milking parlours and the stuff is, in reality, fairly harmless. I just
hope the dopey fuckers clean them out properly.

  6. Heh. It's a glorious climate. Mild in winter, pleasantly warm in summer,
    mostly sunny all the time.

The only bad bit about the weather is what they call the "June Gloom."
There's a prevailing pattern of a maritime layer that brings cold fog at
that time of year. Go a mile inland and it's lovely.

I used to have a bumper sticker that said "There is no intelligent life East
    of I-5.)

  11. Had a lesson today. Got almost all the subjunctive stuff right!

Still can't speak or understand andalú.
Them lot in the Basque Country believe that their language is pure and
unaffected by others. It is *very* weird. Lots of Ks and Ws and Xs.

  12. I keep getting emails from people saying "boycott catalán products as
all the IVA goes to Cataluña". What's that all about then?

  13. Me encanta el senderismo. I might be your first Brit visitor.

Mind you, there's millions of miles of walking country around here.

  14. You saw some spanish in Álora? Blimey. That place is Brit City.
We researched taking that train to Málaga. There's only a couple per day
and the first one is in the afternoon FFS!

I'd rather go on the slow train anyway, as you get to see some lovely
scenery, including the entire Camino del Rey (and the inside of a lot of
    tunnels).

3000 brits in amongst the 40000 in the Alora area apparently

I took the train from Roda to El Chorro the other day and passed through
those very tunnels. Got some ok shots of the early morning light illuminating
the west side of the gorge. I've done the Caminito del Rey by the way, and
    have the T-Shirt.

I heard that it's pretty much unrelated to the romance languages or indeed
the indo european group. Some say it uses some of the same grammatical
patterns as Gaelic. One example was the way the irish might say:

"I'll be after going to the pub later"

I dunno much about etymology though, so it could be nonsense. Interesting
that Breton (based on old Brythonic) also uses K W and X though.

What's the alternative basque name for Irun? I seem to recall that starts
    with a K.

Hungarian has a lot of Mongol influence. Or so I was told by a Hungarian
    historian in Budapest recently.
