Hungarian (Magyar) and Finnish are both Finno-Ugric languages. Not very
unique at all, unless by unique you mean "not Indo-European".

It (well, Manhattan)'s London, but with taller buildings, bigger cars,
and worse driving. It's even possible to roughly relate equivalent
areas, eg. Lower East Side / Clerkenwell, TriBeCa / Camden, etc.

Some of the photos from 'irati' look very like some SWMBO has taken on
her walks. She has done quite a bit of the GR10 starting at Hendaye.
Also around Lourdes. Now filling in the sections that look the most
interesting and can be fitted in to two or three days with stops at
    mountain refuges.

BTW, we fancy a few days in the sun in mid February. Somewhere within
easy reach of an airport served by a budget airline as we are a) pikey
about spending money on holidays other than at 'the chateau' and b)
prefer to do our own thing rather than a package.

Best part of Spain to head for to stand a reasonable chance of sun and
warmth then? Coast is good but not essential. Old cities and Roman ruins
    favoured. We have 'done' Barcelona.

Almeria? Dry when the western costa del sol may not be. Big Cathedral,
Alhambra at Granada a day out in a car. Book ahead for it though.

Easyjet does Reus airport and you are near all the Costa Daurada
tourist facilities and Tarragona Roman heritage (Tarraconenses eunt
domus!). And if you like mountain walking you can surprise yourselves
in the nearby Serra de Prades [1] mountains. And in Priorat you can do
some wine related visits. That should be warm and dry enough [3]
compared to British standards. We are having a waaarm winter but
nothing guarantees a change. Check [2] for hiking in Catalonia.

I'm going to near Malaga (Nerja, in fact) in March, after I've done
Seville. Last time I went to Malaga was for a football match but I
can't actually remember anything about it[1].
I really like Majorca, esp. Pollensa and the surrounding area and in
    the mountains around Luc.

[1] The match. Or the town, come to think of it.

Easyjet flies to BCN rather than Reus.

Ryanair is the no frills outfit that goes to Reus. Although when I went
there last year, heading for Salou, it was cheaper on First Choice and I
flew from a more convenient airport.

  11. Is it just me that parsed that as "Easyjet flies to BGN"?

Well I've been to Almeria. And driven from there to Granada across the
    Alpujarra to visit the Alhambra.

So I guess I do know something about the recommendation I made, yes.

Thanks for the tips, and to tallbloke, Wessie and Alison for the ideas.
    Much Googling to be done.
