What, no mention of Sitges? You're slipping.

  5. You were one of the six flights a day, eh? Odd little airport, Reus. I can
recommend Poblet as a very interesting place to go look at: Carthusian
monastery, great place. Oh, and Olerdola. Up the top of a hill, with a view
*down* on to Barcelona and Tarragona. Amazing Roman stuff, including two
    thousand year old wells.

  6. Heh. Nerja is gorgeous. Superb views.
Yep. There are far fewer naff bits than one might imagine. Alcudia port is
    rather pleasant, too.

  7. The Spanish gentleman's verbosity was much appreciated and has been archived
    by me.
Oh, so my habit of cheerfully mixing French words in when I can't recall the
Catalan or Spanish is quite reasonable then. :)

  8. When we drove to Spain, rather than flying, there used to be what we
referred to as the "red roof" moment. That wonderful feeling when you've
driven through the greyness of the Pas de Calais, flogged your way through
the rather lovely but green Massif Central, and the weather has mostly been
    a bit damp.

And then it happens. You stop by the side of the road for a break, or a
nibble. Get out of the car, and that jolt of sun with some strength in it
smacks you in the back of the neck. You look up, and finally the sky is
blue, and all the houses have red tiled roofs. And there are geraniums eight
feet tall, swallows screaming their hearts out and a bunch of old boys
playing petanque. It feels like your soul waking up.

  10. Yup, the only risk is if the airplane goes tech. It's got a reasonable
    little coffee shop, too.

(Hey, food and airplanes in ONE sentence!)

Oi! The Limousin can get cracking hot in the summer and we were
sunbathing on our patio at Xmas (although this was unusual). I reckon
you can usually notice a difference once south of the Loire.
Don't know about the eight foot tall geraniums but we get the rest of
    the above mentioned.

Ryanair from Luton it seems. Not sure about Salou though. Looks a bit
too 'lively' for us. Now considering Domenec's suggestion of Tarragona.

The new terminal building at Limoges is v. posh after the old shed they
had a few years ago. Still a generally hassle free experience though
despite now a couple of Ryanair and a Flybe service every day.

I kipped on the beach at Nerja last March/April. Nice place, a bit touristy
but still friendly. Chatted with one of the bartenders there about the big
mountains overlooking the town. Carried on along the coast to Almenecar and
up to Granada. Had a look round the Alhambra again, and then took the bus up
to the ski resort and camped at 2500 metres on the ridge. Knocked off the
Pico de Valeta the next day. Stunning views from 3500 metres down to the Med
    and over most of Andalusia.

  15. Well... if you are going to go to Tarragona, why not stay in Sitges? You can
still mooch off to all the lovely Roman bits, and the place itself has
wonderful Modernist stuff, mediaeval back streets, great restaurants....?
    Excellent trains to Tarragona, too.

Here, have a gander at these:

We stay at the Calipolis a lot. Rooms are relatively basic, but spotless,
and the view is to die for. Don't eat there, if you like the look of the
place, I'll point you at restaurants.

I was in Salou with the teenage sprog early in the year. Pleasantly warm
but not sunbathing or sea bathing weather. We were there primarily to get a
rollercoaster fix at Universal's Port Aventura. The food & booze was a
    bonus.

As I have your attention on matters Catalan, I am currently working my ay
through a bottle of VdP Cote des Catalanes. Le XV du Président. XV because
it is made from over-ripe Grenache and ferments out to 15%. Vinified by
someone with a suitably hybrid name, Andrée Ferrandiz, in Opoul.

    Excellent stuff. Available from Laithwaites.
