AFAIR, Ryanair plans to stablish a flight base in Reus as he did in
Girona. Girona has passed from 200.000 passengers per year being about
to close to a few millions and being enlarged...

  2. Oh I know that feeling so well.

It's that stop you change out of your jeans into your shorts.

[Goes back to looking for some where warm to live. Any more
    suggestions?]

  3. Oh, I've got my way through a case of that. It's very fine. I tend to have a
glass of water sitting next to the glass of wine, as I drink it far too fast
    otherwise.

Really? My memory of Alcudia is that it was a bit of a shithole and
full of tourist tat and waterparks. Or is there a nice bit that I
    missed?

Which of the Canary islands were you considering?

  7. Puerto Alcudia, I should say, rather than the town itself. Some decent cafes
to sit outside and watch the world go by, and a pretty older bit of the
    port.

  8. I only really know Tenerife and Fuerteventura as places I have visited
and hired cars and spent time away from the tourist centres. Both have
their nice side and their not so nice.

I've never been to La Gomera but it's semi isolation appeals, ie no
direct flights so fewer 'Brits on tour', but close to Tenerife for
    medical emergencies etc.

It is a case of balancing a quiet life with the access to the
infrastructure that can make life pleasant. I know some very good
restaurants in Tenerife used only by the locals. Plus broad-band would
    be nice.

We are thinking of taking a holiday and visiting all of the island with
perhaps a few days to a week on each. Not ideal but better than nothing.

    Still advice is always accepted.

Ah, right. I think we must have only got as far as the main town,
after heading south out of Puerto Pollensa, before turning back.
The port is on the other (southern) side of the peninsula, isn't it?

I reckon it's your modesty that really wins them over.

Statistics I saw recently - can't remember where - suggest exactly the
    opposite, actually.[/QUOTE]

That would tend to agree with my personal experience and from talking
to others even though I didn't go to Spain.

As far as I can see (generalising here) people who emigrate to enjoy a
better standard of living and need to work for it come home but those
that leave to either retire or eke out a mere existence tend to stop.

Salou is a bit British iyswim. I've worked a few miles up the road a
couple of times and had an absolute riot stopping in Salou. I wouldn't
want to live there under any circumstances.

  18. AOL on that. It's clean (very) and pleasant enough, but rather bland. You
    could be anyplace.

My plans drop me between these two descriptions. I don't mind living a
fairly spartan lifestyle, and I'm not going there to get rich anyway. I'll
have enough to live on, and anything I earn from doing my thing over there
will be a bonus. There's a company which runs bike tours of andalusia on
transalps which is interested in having someone who lives over there full
time to recce routes and organise accomodation etc. Also I hope to do some
mountain guiding with a B&B spinoff. And flog some photos too. I'll still
have a small income from a house I rent out in Leeds to fall back on.

I met several people over there who make a living doing what they enjoy.
Something which seems all too rare in this country.

I never really believed all the global warming bollocks until I
noticed how much the weather has changed in the UK over the last 10
years and I realised everyone has a responsibility to throw away at
least one old fridge every year.

    I hate cold winters.
