    OK... world cup football was 1966. There was however another 'thing'
    that happened around 1946 (well ish).

    And you know how many English people that have moved to France?

    What tradition?

    You mean the one that the fora started?

  14. I haven't found a single western country that's filled with anywhere
    near as many aggressive, obnoxious, arrogant, spineless, dishonest,
    back-stabbing, snivelling little wankers as the UK, so it doesn't really
    matter

    I've never asked you how many English people you know before.
    Oh, sure it occurred to me that you'd read it in a newspaper. I guess
    the French media must be more trustworthy than the British media then.

    You really are determined to make an arse of yourself with this one,
    aren't you Des. Be a man and admit you were wrong. People would
    respect you for it.

  18. Hmm, good point
    Every where's nicer than the UK. Or, more precisely, every other
    nationality is generally nicer than the average person in the UK

    This year has been an absolute huge eye-opener because I've spent a huge
    amount of time out of the UK and I've realised how utterly fucked this
    country is; how successive governments have created a society that's
    completely subservient and views anyone who wants to make their own life
    a little better by defending what few rights/privileges they've got left
    are utterly vilified; how unbelievably obnoxious, arrogant, unpleasant,
    devious and dishonest most people in the UK are; how the handful of
    decent people left struggle to remain that way because being honest is a
    sign of weakness that will be continuously exploited by the majority;
    how the spineless, self-centred majority have destroyed any semblance of
    a civilised society; how those same people now need a scapegoat for the
    shit hole they've created - which they found, immigrants - yet,
    bizarrely, are happy to let the constant violence in this society get
    worse because naming some of the causes wouldn't be politically correct;
    how mindlessly people in the UK are prepared to be perpetually ripped
    off by businesses and governments without doing anything more than
    whining in the pub or on some forum

    I've spent a huge amount of time in a large number of countries this
    year and I've experienced a whole new way of life. One where people are
    friendly because they've not been beaten into a life of constant
    distrust; where people are polite, not because they're paid to be, but
    because you haven't personally done anything to make them behave
    otherwise; you can go for a drink without worrying about some ****
    kicking off for no reason; you can park your bike somewhere without
    having to worry some twat will kick it over or key it 'for a laugh';
    people can afford to live rather than surviving in constant debt; every
    where's actually clean rather than covered in McShite packaging

    The easiest way to describe my personal epiphany would be:

    The UK is Europe's pikey council estate - there's some nice bits and
    some nice people, but far too much of it is basically a shit hole full
    scum

    Of all my friends who've spent a serious amount of time in Europe
    (rather than two weeks on holiday or a couple of days working at 'our
    other office'), every single one, without exception, has come home
    purely to raise the cash and/or sort their affairs out so that they can
    move abroad
