I used "googling" as a short-cut for "web browsing". So, whatever.
Still, you pick on the irrelevant parts of the post.

    You're still wrong about Fora.

I still find that the quality papers do a better job of supplying
background information and investigative journalism. Probably 'cos
they are somewhat more independent from the BBC tax..

IMHO there isn't another paper this side of the Atlantic (OK, in the
EU) that's _worse_ than The Sun. Although 'Bild' in Germany isn't that
    far off.
I've just about got enough knowledge of the language to survive, even
managed to get the Triumph repaired in Aix-en-Provence and nobody
there understood, or much less spoke English.
Usual problem in all languages, especially if you're relying on
something like UKRM to pick up the colloquial part of the language :).

Laziness? Blimey. I'd have thought typing something out where your
effort doesn't add any value was stupidity and a waste of effort.
Additionally the link probably gave additional information (should it be
required) and as such is of value.

    Strange attitude you've got.
You're right, constantly stating something that's wrong is right doesn't
make it so. Which is why I'm surprised you persist in stating that
'fora' isn't a plural of 'forum'. Come on Des, time to confess; admit
that you accept 'fora' is as legitimate a plural of 'forum' as 'forums'

When my Mum and Dad moved to France, they specifically avoided any
English ghettos as they loved the French and their culture. So they
went to the Languedoc, just north of Carcasonne. Within 3 years, the
place was infested with other English, happily, mostly on the other
side of Carcasonne. The worst thing was, they were in the antiquarian
book trade until they retired, and their arch enemy, Richard Booth
(who started the Hay on Wye book thingie) moved in only 15 miles away.

Me too - I have travelled widely in Europe and lived in the
Netherlands for 2 years (lovely people, shame about the landscape) and
Sweden for 7 months (lovely landscape, shame about the people) and
came home, vowing never to live abroad again. I agree that many people
in this benighted isle are awful - dishonest, unfriendly, violent, but
many more are helpful, witty (don't find much of that abroad
anywhere), and supportive. The countryside is beautiful and the towns
getting better than they were. I will stay and do my bit to make my
community a place fit to live in if I can.

  13. That's something everybody eventually learns, whatever the language.

"I speak my mind, me." = "Sometimes I don't know when to shut up."

    It's something I've been guilty of, not shutting up when appropriate;
not shutting up can earn anything from a club round the head from a
baton to a hurt look. Of the two, I've found the hurt look the most
    educational.

  16. That would work well if it was an old Triumph Acclaim,
which roughly translates as Sieg Heil :)

The reason language teaching in UK schools is so crap is to deter all the
white people from moving to France.
