I see Garry McCoy has lost his Trump ride this year and they're running
    young Yank Jason DeSalvo instead.
Hopefully we'll see him pop up somewhere again.

She's a beaut alright; in 2001 Rossi said he was happy to be beaten by McCoy
'cause he could watch him slide all day!
    She's a beaut too!

  3. That is pure art. Brings a thump to the chest. Similar to the still
image of Doohan backing the NSR into a corner a decade or more ago. We
don't get as much of that any more. Wonder why?

Nostalgia is going down hill, too.

The newer 4 strokes and higher grip tyres that struggle to last a race
reward a smoother riding style IMO... more 250 style riding than moto
    cross style riding.

More of the riders are coming up via the road bike path as well which
would contribute to the prevalence of that style.

Podium maybe. I didn't think he won. (In the World SS anyway. Are you
    talking about the British SS?)

Was it 2007 or 2008 that Stoner was miles ahead of the field? I'm sure there
was scope for some wicked skylarking then lol

Wasn't he 'the exception that proved the rule?' :) [1]

[1] Personally I think it just means McCoy doesn't need as much grip to
ride so a shagged tyre effects him less (due to his sliding style).

  15. what has he done in last 5yrs to deserve a ride on anything more than
    an aussie titles privateer bike?

Oh I dunno, 2 thirds in WSS on a bike that his team struggles to get in
    the top 10 ?

Not bad for a journeyman, fill-in rider. (5-and a half years ago he got
a win and 2-podiums on a second-string SBK bike too).
I'm sure if he got a decent haircut, visited an orthodontist and (most
importantly) got a PR manager he could get a position in a prime,
genuine-contender team but that doesn't appear to be his style.

Being able to ride a bike is a definite advantage, but this is only a part
of what it takes to score a real ride. Being a bankable PR personality and
bringing lots of sponsorship dollars is equally important. Many of his rides
have been unpaid or paid only expenses. He does not bring anything to a team
apart from reasonable riding ability. This is why he has been unable to
    score a quality ride.
