Quite, but it's a dilemma. This kind of thread will nearly always
ends up as a BHaLC vs. The Vigilantes argument (obviously), and I
(somewhat surprising myself) find my opinions closer to the former.

But going back to TOG's original post:

    "Assuming that Plod achieves nothing"

what is the alternative? That they can do this and "get away" with it?

    Hmmmm...

  2. Agree.

    We are not like scrotes.

The cost of this is that we don't get to engage in scrote-like revenge.

The benefit is we live happy, normal, productive lives and our
interfaces with the world of scrotery are in frequent.

That is how we beat the scrotes. Not by acting on their terms.

Maybe TOG could cash in on this and make a few bob for his son by
writing a suitably tory-like article for the daily mail about the whole
    thing....

I think once one starts using one's brain, it's the only conclusion!
Would the society we live in be any better a place if vigilante style
retribution really were visited on the offenders? For all the use of
phrases such as "it's the only language they understand", what really
motivates the Vigilante-tendency is revenge, pure and simple.

The sort of folk who rob and beat other people have already learnt
that "might is right", most likely at the knee of whoever has brought
them up. Beating them up in turn is just going to re-inforce that
lesson, not show them the error of their ways.

And if he says he'd really like to cause them actual physical harm,
give him another shoeing until he learns violence isn't the answer.

    Erm...

Get away with what? Being thick, ignorant fucktards with no prospects?

Life has its own rewards and punishments, you just have to be a little
    more holistic about it all.

  6. It the "well 'ard biker" way apparently. That it's illegal and
    unethical seems to be irrelevent.

Oh - and I have my doubts whether the 'take them dahn an alley and kick
the crap out of them' brigade would ever have the bottle to follow
    their own advice.

They don't get away with it. They will have lives which are more
solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short than you and yours, they will
have to wear a burberry uniform for eternity.

Do'nt let anger take you down to their kneeandertal level,
tempty-wempting as it must be to spill a bit of the old claret. Cheer
up, old man, you have my sympathy's.

True. But there needs to be a deterrent for people committing
such acts in the first place, or some kind of 'punishment' if
they do commit them otherwise people will do whatever they like
    without redress.
That's the nub of the problem here though - society itself and the
police in particular should "show them the error of their ways"
but it doesn't seem to be happening (or not seen to be happening).

In an ideal world, people would have more respect for each other
and/or the police would be capable of seeing 'justice' done.
But sadly, it is seen by the masses that society is going downhill
(ban hoodies!) and the police are tied up with paperwork/red-tape.

If the accused were daft enough to show said fizogs while doing the deed,
then they'd deserve all they got.... Silly cnuts.

We're not living in an anarchy here. Whatever you think about the
police and courts, they're busy every day.
I think our overflowing prisons show this isn't true. People *do* get
caught, go to court, and get punished.

Absolute codswhallop. 'Deterrence' as a means of lowering or stopping
crime has consistently failed to do so for many hundreds of years.
Those that advocate it are either totally naive or more often simply
chanelling their own need for revenge into something that society may
    find more acceptable.
No, that's never going to work. The _only_ way to tackle crime is to
ensure that people are brought up to respect one another - by the time
they've got to this stage it's too late and _nothing_ you can do will
    change them. Sad but true.
No. Said ideal world doesn't require 'justice'.

This is all very true and I agree...
....but (you knew there was a 'but' coming) if we just let
the scrotes carry on without any redress *whatsoever*, then
they're liable to get bigger, bolder and our 'interfaces' with
them could well become more frequent.
I was hoping that the Daily Mail gambit wasn't going to be used
so early on in the debate. IMO it generally weakens the BHaLC's
    usual, reasoned arguments.

know is that the twats who did him over eventually also got done over.

  20. IMHO scrotes already are above the law as long as they keep their crime
'petty'. They're not frightened of a kicking, prison, a criminal record
or anything society can do to them. We can't kill 'em so we have to
tolerate them. In contrast if we step out of line we spoil our lives
becuase we do hate criminal records etc.

IMHO a kicking is not redress. These weirdos *like* to fight.
