Point of order, the Chillis have slipped into the former category of "pap" now, let's be honest. I know musical taste is subjective but anyone who doesn't agree is a twat.
I don't need to buy something to listen to it - Radio, TV and the likes of iTunes provide ample opportunity to sample before purchase, not to mention various ways of getting a hooky copy to sample. As mentioned elsewhere, I see a real problem of derivative content at the moment - it's really hard to find something that doesn't sound like a carbon copy of something else. The AOR revival (The Feeling are a prime example - absolute tripe) is woeful, even those darlings the Scissor Sisters seem to be aiming for a disco version of Supertramp. The question I'd ask about your list is "what's different to like?" When you've heard one Snow Patrol song, you've heard them all. The Chillis aren't exactly exploring new sonic territory. Every one of your lists seems to have a Norman Jay compilation on it. All firmly rooted in the Rock And Pop aisle of Our Price, different it ain't.
<fx: checks Amazon order history> Wow, I haven't bought any CDs since July. Most recent(ish) purchases were: Biosphere: "Dropsonde" Boards of Canada: "Trans Canada Highway" (EP) Boards of Canada: "The Campfire Headphase" Bola: "Gnayse" Chris Coco: "Heavy Mellow" LCD Soundsystem: "LCD Soundsystem" Murcof: "Rembrenzana" Robert Rich & B.Lustmord: "Stalker" Thievery Corporation: "The Cosmic Game" Thievery Corporation: "Versions" Tim "Love" Lee: "Confessions of a Selector" Anything there familiar to you? I think you might like LCD Soundsystem.
Also Kiedis's inability to evolve past the same vocal progressions and devices he has used over and over is immensely tedious. Maybe they need someone else to die.
One of the big bands over here atm is Wolfmother, to me they sound like a distilled version of the 70s rock bands, and I mean distilled as in tasteless and devoid of character. But you trying telling the kids of today...
Not just Wolfmother. There's The Datsuns, Jet, etc. Australia seems to be something of a powerhouse of 70s pastiche.
You say that like it's a bad thing. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) \`\ | /`/ GSX-R1000K3 (slightly broken, currently missing) `\\ | //' BOTAFOT#3, SbS#2, UKRMMA#13, DFV#8, SKA#2, IBB#10 `\|/` `
I do have that CD - ISTR it was rather good too. I also have a couple of Boards of Canada CDs but not the ones you list. I've heard of Biosphere, Thievery Corporation and Tim "Love" Lee.
