Musical recommedations

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Paul Corfield, May 10, 2007.

  1. For once not from me. I've not bought any CDs for months and I fear HMV
will go out of business if I don't resume old habits.

Any recommendations for "must have" music in 2007?

Assuming you haven't got it, Arcade Fire "Neon Bible". 45% Bruce
Springsteen, 45% Echo and the Bunnymen, 10% Silver Mt. Zion

I haven't bought anything in ages. I miss working up the road from the Fopp
in Covent Garden. All they sell in record shops near the BBC is Lady fucking
    Sovereign

The new Maximo Park, Lucky Soul, and She's Got You High by Mumm-Ra
(everything else they've done has been a bit shit, mind.)

I've hardly bought any music at all this year, In fact only one CD,
which was a couple of days ago. I'm fairly sure you'd hate it so don't
consider it a recommendation: Nine inch nails - Year Zero.

New Porcupine Tree? I just ripped my copy of On the Sunday of Life onto the
    MP3 player. Good stuff!

There's a thing. I made my first 2007 order on Monday and that was
the first one in the basket. Followed by the new Manic Street
Preachers album; the recent Kaiser Chiefs one, Floyd's Pulse on DVD
and Moseley Shoals by Ocean Colour Scene for Elly. That'll do me for
    a while.

  8. That's almost a Steven Wilson solo album, I can listen to it, but parts
are a little too electronic for me. I like the new stuff a lot, it has
a harder edge, and it's accessible without being a sell-out, but the
middle era e.g. Lightbulb Sun, Stupid Dream, is more organic and
    emotional etc.

They keep progressing, which is a good thing. I don't like bands that
churn out the same album every time [1]. I also don't like bands that
    confuse experimentation with "tuneless crap".

[1] Except AC/DC, but they are /supposed/ to.

  9. And ZZ Top, of course.

My Baby has had me listening to Bassment. Mostly crap (if it isn't Quo
isn't it all?) with a couple of quite good highlights. I disagree with
her that Sean Paul is the dogzbollox but I see where she is coming from.
Now seems like as good a time as any for her introduction to Vivaldi.

It's good but (as ever) I think the first one is better.

I was due to see them at the Astoria last night but I cancelled as my
mum was admitted to hospital yesterday.

Raise The Alarm - The Sunshine Underground.

I saw TSU (at the Astoria) on Weds and they rock. Currently my "most
    listened to" album.

  12. Sunday of Life is the only one I've heard. This will have to be rectified.

Oddly I can see it appealing to you, plus you've got the stereo for it,
it doesn't work as well quietly..)

IIRC Paul's previous musical choices have always appeared melodic and
mainstream, so I'm not sure how he'd take to the industrial genre... Not
that that stops him giving it a go anyway.

If some of us didn't, there wouldn't be any more produced for you and
your pikey ilk to rip off.

Oh, and the CSS debut album, if you don't have this - it's a must

Yes, it's good stuff, as was "Free the Bees". If anyone has "Sunshine Hit
Me", the first album, a download to the gmail account would be greatly
appreciated. At the moment, I are also mostly enjoying Broken Social Scene
and Feist. The Cinematic Orchestra provide a jazz/ambient/indie background
    to work.
