True, true. Jarvis Cocker's solo album is alright too, though his lyrics
are a bit earnest at times.

Unless every musician is willing to perform at their own expense for
    the benefit of freeloaders, yes.

Ian McNabb (Ex-Icicle Works frontman) is nearly there - he is willing to
perform in peoples front rooms if they pay his expenses & provide
somewhere to stay. Calls it his YouTube tour.

    <Lifted from his myspace blog>
"Big shout out to all the fine folk I played to on the MySpace tour last
weekend. I'm seriously thinking about giving up the usual circuit as
these kind of gigs are far more rewarding. Standing in the middle of a
living room with 25 people singing my music in a 360 degree sweep is
    overwhelming - thanks guys.

For those still unaware - I WILL COME TO YOUR HOUSE WITH MY ACOUSTIC
GUITAR AND PLAY ALL NIGHT. ROUND UP THE TROOPS, GET THE BOOZE AND FOOD
IN AND I WILL ROCK YOUR CURTAINS. I WILL TALK MUSIC WITH THE BOYS AND
    FLIRT WITH ALL THE GIRLS.

Email me at: and I'll tell you what it costs (cheaper
than you think) and explain how we do it!

*Drunk teen sluts are standing by awaiting your call*"
    </Lift>

If anyone does one in the south-west, let me know. I'd have him round
tomorrow but my front room isn't big enough for me, SWMBO, daughter, Mr
    McNabb *AND* his guitar.

Fall Out Boy - Bit like a cross between The Offspring/Maroon Five/Soul
Asylum - nice & melodic - good drummer

Bright Eyes - weird (ish) lyrics, varying styles, sort of middle America
a la Neil Young / Springsteen. All with a modern odd sounds in for free
    type of production.

simonk secured a place in history by writing:
Seconded - haven't stopped listening to it since it came out, much the same
as was the case with the first one. Also the new Kings of Leon.

Bear banged the rocks together and they said :
If you need something to listen to just about any music, try
    www.alltunes.com

Yes its that russian download site, but their "iTunes" equivalent
software lets you listen to all of a track, or all of an album [1,2].

[1] Don't need any credit with them, don't need to download any tunes,
just use it for previewing music and then buy it elsewhere if you like.
[2] I've come across maybe 2 albums where they cut the songs off after
a minute, but 99% of stuff I've listened to was 100% complete.

Speaking of which, if you like Floyd then consider seeing Aussie Pink
Floyd. They were in Portsmouth last week and the show was excellent,
with them performing mostly Dark side of the moon tracks, plus
comfortably numb, a little bit of the wall etc (actually a bit like
Pulse, but with some quieter tracks too). All the vocalists were
superb, the music was as close to Pink Floyd as you can get, and the
light show was very good too. Their web site has samples you can
download and listen to for comparison. The vocal on Great gig in the
    sky was stunning...

  19. I always pay for music - except for the "Now that's what I call Darsy
Vol 1" CD that he produced and sent out many moons ago. Even that
causes me the occasional moral dilemma as it was obviously copied.

I have never downloaded a track in my life from any commercial artist.
The only MP3s I have were done by Windy and E.

I don't own a portable MP3 player either so have never "ripped" a track
    from a CD I own.

Call me odd but I respect artists' copyright and will not lend CDs to
    people who would copy them.

    I found it useful - http://www.aussiefloyd.com/

It let me know whether I thought they were worth paying to watch. I'm
glad that the current ELO incarnation also have a site - they turned
out to be crap and not worth paying to watch, something good to know
    in advance.
