    Isn't pork pie just great?

And does anyone ever use hotel telephones? I mean for the cost of 5
minutes local call on the one next to me, I could walk over the road and
buy a PAYG mobile with £10 credit.

Yes. Brought a couple back from the UK two weeks back and was reminded
of how much I miss them.
I made a call from a hotel in Cambridge MA (USA) last year while on a
business trip. Sure, I was talking for a while, mebbe half an hour,
but I was still shocked to the core to find I was billed $175 for it.
After whinging like hell the hotel knocked off their (alleged) markup,
but that still left it at $130 or so.

The expense claim wasn't queried, but it spurred me into getting a
    work mobile for such eventualitites.

I had a major argument with the staff at the Best Western next to New
Orleans airport when they charged me $10 each for half a dozen phone
calls that didn't even get connected then charged me somewhere near to
$100 for a 5 minute call when I eventually got connected to the UK to
tell them I was on my way back.

I had to pay in the end and my company reimbursed me for it but they
followed up by canceling the company account with Best Western who
they'd previously used at home and abroad. They never did get a reply
when they sent an email complaining and telling them they were closing
the account so I guess the chain didn't GAF.

An ex-colleague did. After his manager refused to sign off the
business calls on his mobile from the US on his next trip he took part
in a 4 hour teleconference using a European access number. There was
no arguments over mobile bills after that.

  19. I managed to get 50p refunded and chopped off my bill after I dialled a
freephone number and the hotel billed me for it....

(It's the little things that mount up, y'know)
