That was my secondary hope.

 

I went there for a couple of days on my Oz trip, to visit some distant
relatives. Hadn't been expecting that much from it, but it turned out to be
the highlight of the trip. Lovely scenery, great people, superb food. More
of what I'd heard New Zealand would be like than Oz. Well worth a trip
anyway - it's only about sixty quid for a return flight there from Sydney.

 

Seconded. Like Victoria in BC, Hobart is more English than the
rest of the country. Then there's Mount Wellington. I managed some
incredible distance down the mountain from the top (20 km? Can't remember
at this remove) on a borrowed Yamaha 200, coasting. I just missed, by
1-200 metres, making it over a crest which would have then given me
another several km.
