My gearbox

  1. May have asked here before, but don't remember. The Blackbird jumps out
of 5th now and again (under power - ouch). Will this just mean a new 50c
spring or summat, or do I scrap the bike now?

    But that's a ham, not a pumpkin.

  4. Mmmmmm, pata negra. Lovely. Really does melt in one's mouth. Don't be
thinking it's anything like that plastic stuff Manolo serves up in "El
corner caff" with cheese, on stale bread.

  6. But there's more to a pig than a pair of hams. I had some lovely pork
    loin last night.

+1. It's about time one of the channels showed it again.

    Food for thought there.

Erm, don't forget that I'm related to a Spaniardess and that the art
of Jamon has been learnt in the same way that Luke Skywalker learnt
    the force.

As it goes, whoever buys that will need to eat it quickly, as it won't
keep the same flavour in an English climate.

It's expensive, but decent ham can be anything from €50 to €100/kg
(sometimes more), so this one is probably about 4-6 times the price in
    a decent jamoneria?

I quite often purchase from here:

hmmmm! jumping out of a gear.

Could be anything really. Best talk to someone
who knows wot goes wrong with the model.

    Otherwise -
    weak detent springs
worn positive stop bits - between pedal n drum
worn selector (crescent or pin or both)
end float on "fixed" (non sliding) gears
    end float on shaft(s)
    worn dogs - either side
    worn selector drum
    end float on selector drum

    some arbitrary combination of above

Very tough without prior model experience
or a big pile of shiny new bits.

If you decide to take it apart I could perhaps
come round and hum n haw, if it is not too far.
I am SE lonon not too far from chez TOG.

Best idea might be to convert it to four speed:)

  13. Well, perhaps I'll start undoing things and have a kind of a blog, with a
photo after each "undo". Popping round from SE London isn't really going
    to work.

    Where's my HBOL...

  14. Hmm indeed. Jumped out of 4th today. Under hard acceleration. I'm a tad
    concerned.

  15. I don't get any noticeable warning. It just pops out.

    HBOL says "overhaul transmission".

  16. Honesty time. If I use the clutch, it doesn't happen.

  17. I thought you'd say that. It's just that I hate using the clutch to
change up. Some might say that's the problem I suppose.

Now go to the "Changing without clutch" thread in EChM and warn them
what resulted of your bad habits.

  19. Just read the entire thread. They're all wibbling on about something
called "cluch cables". What's one of them then? Oh yes, I had one on my
Ford Cortina mk 2. In 1979.

It's only a problem if it jumps out of gear now and again ...
