well, we found an absolute cracker this morning. It runs from Castleton (N
Yorks) to Helmsley & rocks utterly. I'll try find out what the number is.
Well worth a blast any day of the week.

It is - it's our standard route to Helmsley. It's also heavily
    policed.

Really, bloody hell, it looked deserted. Unmarked cars, vans or what?

Try the B1363 from Oswaldkirk down to York. It's a doozey and quite tricky
    in places.

Speed traps mostly. This really stirred things up
    http://www.biker247.com/News/155.asp
and I imagine was partly responsible for this
    http://www.polfed.org/0305driving_the_changes.pdf

Things aren't so bad now, but unless we can see we're alone we tend to
keep to around 70 mph - quite fast enough for many of the bends and
brows! Besides, it's pretty enough simply to admire.

Is that the one where you can take an alternative road coming back from
Brid? If so, it's a belter.

Gawd that BAND letter is full of (horcum)holes as is Plod's reply. No
    surprise.

"Oi, Rix, your trousers have fallen down" Wanker ;o)

It was very nice indeed, we didn't go absolutely mental, but brisk would
be the word i could best describe :)

Where my brother lives in Vegas, their attitude is "Loud pipes saves lives"

Went to a bike meet where a rather cute girl in leathers on a brand new
black ZX10 just had just the down pipes and no exhaust.

    Sounded a touch interesting.

I always blip the throttle as a warning rather than use the horn. I
don't think I've actually used a horn deliberately in years - odds of me
finding it in a hurry are practically zero.

Only downside is when I'm on the RGV. Blipping the throttle doesn't have
    quite the same effect.

IIRC some people here have been fitting Siebel(?) horns to good effect.
The twin Fiamms on Boxers work rather well.

Oh sure but it is nice to have both.

If you ride in cities with lots of pedestrians, then maybe.

If you don't, then loud pipes just piss people off. They probably
piss people off in cities too. I've not had a loud (or evwen
non-standard) exhaust on a bike for a good 20 years.

It's not my fault you live in the ghetto.
Why? I don't like noisy motorcycles.

I found it quite amusing on my Bikesafe course where the traffic cop
was talking about loud exhausts. It was along the lines of...

    "neeeeeeeeeeee"

"Right, best finish up the tea"

    "nnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooooooowwwwwwwww"

    "Done with the donuts mate?

    "nnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

"Got the gun ready? No, ok"

    "nnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"

    "Choccy bikky?"

    "nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneeeeeeeeeeeeeoooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm"

    "And, there. 108mph. Nicked."

Silence is golden as far as I'm concerned. Along with a legal plate
etc. I have a feeling the only reason I got off a DWDC charge last
October was because the bike was 100% straight and I passed the
    attitude test.
