I usually pay a bit extra and go on the preview day to avoid the
    crowds.

  9. Why?

    I mean, seriously *why*?

What is the point in trogging up to the grimy Midlands?

To look at new bikes? The UK hasn't been used to launch anything new,.
of significance, for decades. And what was newly launched in Milan ast
month will be in your dealer in a couple of months' time anyway.

For the "atmosphere"? Crowded and smelly.

For the haute cuisine? A Brum Burger. Yummy.

For the bargains? Look at what you spent on getting up there and getting
in, and look at the £5 you saved on pair of throwovers. Which you could
have bought for half the price, and still new, at a decent autojumble.

UK bike shows are nasty, overpriced, overcrowded, tacky and just a
triumph of hype over common sense. Oh, wow, so they have all the "extra
enterntainents". Yeah, like I really wanted to watch some twat ride an
electric scooter over an oil drum.

"The shows" Yeah, five bored bints gyrating on a stand while they chew
    gum.

"The latest kit" **** off. It's a market, a souk, flogging nasty
leathers that have either been bought in specially from Pakistan so you
think it's a bargain, or exhumed from someone's basement. "Full leather
race suits from £99!" But only if you're four feet tall and have a
    40-inch waist.

The whole shebang is nasty, decrepit, and just plain common.

*sniff* I'm going and I like them.

You see bits and pieces there that you don't normally get to see. There
are often a few interesting looking bikes.

There's tat that's sometimes worthwhile; boxes of bolts and the like.
Every couple of years I'll buy a new helmet there, which is useful since
they're right there, in my hand.

    It's also a day out.

    They're grubby too.

I enjoyed the time I went but that was primarily because I got pissed
with Blaney, his dad and Cane. I think Cane's dad was there once too.
Or I got a bit confused not sure, TBH.

Other than that it's all a bit shit.

    That's my basic plan

The year wouldn't be complete without him wandering round slowly for a
couple of hours, eating the Ginsters Pasties that he's lovingly warmed
and carted around all morning, buying a pint of fizzy bitter and doing
more wandering about in the afternoon.

After a couple of years I now avoid preview day as it's busier than the
other days. Yes there's totty, but all things considered I prefer to be
able to get on the bikes without queuing.

Agreed. Plus, for 60s and over, it's only a fiver to get in. Take
sarnies and beer with you and it's a relatively cheap day out.
