Hey there usual (and unusual) suspects,

I'm considering heading up that way, Berowra at 9:30 and on to Mt White or
perhaps Kulnurra for coffee/chat etc. Throw together a few Oxley run
    thoughts perhaps?? :)

Have to be back in Sinney by about 12:30.

    Pete, GB, Cam etc.???

    Cheers,
    Dave E

  2. I sent a reply before but it got lost in cyberspace. Something along the
lines of you making me sack myself, but fuckit, I should be able to manage
Mt white about 10:30 or Mary's about 10:45 'cause I can't be too early for
a countery at Wollombi! Yous have got the number, send a message or I'll
    wave somewhere along the track!

No can do, sorry. It is interesting on this of all days (national
day of protest against new IR reforms) that I'm told that I now
have to give a weeks notice if I want to use even half a day of
the months of accumulated time-in-lieu I have accumulated.

(Oh, and I'm not allowed to strike with the rest of the country)

That's uni-fucking-versities for ya :-/ Not Happy Jan.

Oddly, at our place, when the union has put out a call for members to
participate in events such as today's march, Management have demanded
that anyone *not* participating lodge a form declaring their intention
not to take industrial action. Anyone not lodging the form was docked a
    day's pay.

    Yesterday we got this.
    ***********************************
The University acknowledges that there has been a call for participation
in a National Day of Community Protest on 15 November 2005, which is
    tomorrow.

The University will be open for business tomorrow, as it is a normal
workday. Accordingly, staff are expected to perform their usual duties
so as to ensure continuity of services to customers, unless they have
received prior approval from their supervisor to be absent on leave.

Those who plan to take leave are to request approval in the normal way.
Leave may be either paid (e.g.. annual leave, time off in lieu) or
unpaid. Approval of such leave will, as always, be subject to the
operational requirements of the individual work unit. Due to the variety
of activities performed by different groups of employees any
reorganising of activities needs prior discussion with, and agreement
    of, the relevant supervisor.

The University recognises that there may be some staff who may wish to
follow their union's direction to participate in this day of community
protest as industrial action and have their absence recorded
accordingly. In such circumstances they should advise their supervisor
prior to their absence (so that their supervisor can plan for a safe
workplace and operational and customer needs) and also understand that
the University will not be able to pay them for their period of absence.
    *************************************

That's a refreshing change, even though it's only reverted to what you
    would expect.

    for a deduction.)

We got something similar (at 16:14 yesterday), which is hardly surprising as
the unis, more than most employers, are constrained by dodgy laws and
    vicious conditional funding ultimata...

    <snip>

Well, they said there was a threat of sunny weather this morning and there
it was. Bloody sunshine all over the place. Despite the conditions, we
met - well, Cam and I (someone needs a new alarm clock I'm told... ) at
Berowra and had a quiet spin up to Mt White. Chatted for a bit with a crazy
bugger, known for his video exploits (and who shall remain unnamed) and Big
Phil turned up on the Harley.

Time came for me to return to the big smoke and Pete arrived as I was about
to leave. G'day mate and made a few arrangements for the Oxley run next
week (yeeeeesssss) and I headed south.

Fair and sunny until about Turramurra and suddenly there were winds gusting
to about 40kts, leaves and branches flying all over the place and I had to
twist 'er up a bit to get her home quickly. Thankfully I saw the light
mounted on top of the white Foulcan just up the hill from the Pymble train
overpass and so just got away with that one...

Caught a few drops before riding into the garage - another short but happy
    burst on a schoolday.

Hope you buggers had a good one - lunch at Brooklyn would have been much
    more like it!

    Cheers,
    Dave E
PS. GB, you've got waaay more than a week to request next Friday off for the
Oxley Run. Failing that, just join Pete and I and whoever at Kulnurra at
    11am for Wollombi lunch (Fri 25). :)

  13. Heheh. You sounded real _healthy_ on the phone!

Thanks to Dave me and Cam got a nice undercover table at the Anglers Rest
Hotel to watch the worst of the wet stuff blow over. I only got a bit damp
riding home but **** there was some bark all over the road.
