Some of you may be aware that I'm about to collect my new bike; a
    GSX750F. It's a year 2000, on a W. I've been looking for hard luggage
kits, preferably used, and I'm surprised to find nothing listed by the
    major players.

Does anyone have any ideas (Lozzo?) if stuff can be had? I don't
really want to rely on soft bags...

    Cheeze!

I'll look into it tomorrow. If you wanted a bike to fit hard luggage to
then you should have checked the Givi/Kappa/Nonfango etc options before
    buying the bike.

    Considered the Ventura stuff?

You might be able to pick up most of it (especially the racks and bags)
on eBay. Depending on how much of a hurry you're in, you may need to buy
    the L-brackets direct.

    Cheers.

Choosing a bike based on luggage catalogues would be like choosing a
car based on your horoscope, though!

I think it's the age factor. They don't show much over 5 years old,
    online.

Don't be such a ****. What you've done is like saying you want a low
maintenance shaft drive bike with loads of mid range grunt for touring
then buying an Aprilia RS125. You said you wanted hard luggage fitting
to your new bike, so it makes sense to check if it's available for that
    bike before buying it.

I looked at an Aprilia Shiver to replace the Versys, but no-one made
any hard luggage for it so I walked away and looked elsewhere.

    you didn't look hard enough

Givi Monorack kit 518F lets you have a topbox

    http://www.motorcycleplanet.co.uk/shopexd.asp?id=592 gives prices
for new stuff. You'll need the kit plus the M3 plate (don't get the
MM plate as Monokey boxes are easier to find used).

Possibly not much use to you as I found it too small for a top box,
but I have an E38 (38 litre) Givi Monokey box surplus to requirement.
I currently use an E46 box which is much better as I can get my helmet &
jacket in there when on day trips.

FWIW, I use a topbox and throwovers for trips over 1 week or where plenty
of layers are needed just in case. Expensive or water sensitive stuff goes
in the topbox, dirty laundry, trainers etc go in the throwovers.
Worked on several trips to far away places.

****. I looked there... my eyes need testing.
The MM plate would work with the 40-something litre Givi Simply Box, I
    have at the moment.

Sorted then, for less than £100 for new stuff. Try ghostbikes.com in
Preston for prices. Very good mail order service and the website is quoting
discounts on Givi RRP. They don't list any fitting kits but might be
    cheaper than elsewhere.

Looking at this, I may as well put a Renntec rack on, as I have the
necessary plate, anyway. Did that with the B12. Worked fine.

Looks like that's what's happening, unless Lozzo discovers something.

    I've got a GSX750F and FWIW, I couldn't find a *full* luggage set for
it. I only found the topbox kit, as you have, which I thought wasn't
worth it, so I went for a tank bag option. Admittedly this was over 7
years ago when I last looked.

    I've got a GSX750F...

I can't believe there are three people in this group who own GSX750Fs. I've
only ever seen two on the road in the last three and a half years.

But pannier kits do get discontinued for old bikes. I looked all over
for the Givi side pannier rails [1] for my '02 Tiger and had a hell of
a job finding anyone who stocked them, as they'd been discontinued in
favour of ones that fitted the later Tigers.

I eventually found a NOS pair in the USA, and had to import them at
eek! cost, as there we none to be found in the EU.

    Paul.

[1] So I could re-use the Givi side boxes that fitted to the
    Blackbird's Wingrack 2

I've just sold my T4[1] Tiger Givi pannier rails for 90 quid. They
were about 14 years old & pretty manky too. Only got 8.50 for the Givi
    rack though.

[1] You should know what it is now.

I'll admit to having one in my garage, but in my defense it's not my
    name in the logbook.
