New bike..

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Kiva \(fka Damien\), Dec 17, 2003.

  1. Well I am going to start looking for the 600f4i anyhow (before convincing
dad - see other thread) and am wondering what I should expect to pay ? I
have checked redbook and various other sources but want to get your guys
    opinions..

    I'm thinking a 01 or 02 model with 20k (?) on the clock.

I just got an 02 model CBR600F4i, 900k's, rack and the like. for $11,000,
had to get insurance and get onroads due to change rego state.

I got rear tyre, oggie nobs, 68l Ventura aero bag thrown in, it was on
consignment at a dealer, in the country, so pay a grand or two cheaper in
    the city..

    Cheers
    Nathan..

bought 9k, depending on the condition ...

here's one that i know of:

    2002 Red/black CBR 600 F4i - 35,000 kms - $9000.

Lots of pics around on the website.

Generally good condition, a few scratches - nothing major. Has a reputation
for being the dirtiest bike in Oroadsports though I think!

Always serviced on the dot at Action MC in the city. Brand new Pirelli
Diablo tyres (well, actually I have used them at the track now so 95% new!).
Brand new sprocket and chain. HH front pads. Everything else all stock
    standard.

you can find the details of it at www.oroadsports.com

    cheers,
    mero

You'll never get that! Everyone will claim it's nearly worn out at 35,000km!

    35,000km!

Really? Or is that just cheek in tongue?

No, not trying to be funny - just want to know.

  7. so wot km should I look for then ? how long do theses generally run for?
(obv it depends on how u take care of it but top care)

eg. for instance when I was looking for the babyblade I wouldn't buy more
    than 15,000 on the clock..

if a bike is well looked after and serviced regularly, there's no reason it
shouldn't run for a long time. i mean look at some of the bikes out on the
road today, they were built in the 80's and they still go, or the gray
    imports.

the things that you may want to take into account are:
    - the number of km/year that it does but even that isn't necessarily a good
    indicator.
    - what sort of riding has been done on it
    - how fastidious the person was about servicing, i'd maybe call their
    mechanic

    cheers,

  9. Yeah, in Sydney, at least, theres a real aversion to buying a "high
mileage" japanese sportsbike, where "high mileage" seems to start at
somewhere down around 4 or 5,000km a year.

Al Pennykid had an impossible time trying to sell a few year old VTR1000
a while back, 'cause at 70,000 km or so, everybody figured it was
    completely worn out.

So yeah, I reckon an '02 CBR600 with 35,000km on it is not going to get
a lot of calls at that price.

big (up around 180,000km on my Jap bike now ;-)

Well, if you were buying a grey-import babyblade then what's displayed
on the odo isn't necessarily even close to the number of km that have
    passed under its wheels...

    Very much so. ;-)

People generally seem to get a bit funny about the number of km a
sportsbike has travelled - as many an owner of 2-year-old 50,000+km
bikes has discovered to their woe.

For what it's worth, with the type of riding I do (far more touring
and commuting than scratching, rarely getting near the redline) I'd
expect a CBR600F4i would last me about 100,000km. Then it'd probably
need a camchain to go another 100,000km. ;-)

    15000km on the clock total?
or 15000km + the 30000kms that USED to be on the clock in Japan but
seemed to have disappeared while the bike was in transit?

  15. It was a new engine.. Sydney City Motorcycles put it in and I confirmed it
with them.. I bought it with 12,000 on the clock which the guy had used in 2
yrs - it was also his second bike (he bought for his wife and she hardly
used it as she fell pregnant soon after) so he rode it occasionally... I
still keep in contact with the guy.

I know I'd certainly trust a guy with the nous to buy a new engine from
(and subsequently get it installed by) Sydney City.

The "pregnant wife" story is another trustworthy one. I've only heard it
10000 times. In fact, the guy that used to own my bike sold it with 5000
k on the clock because "his wife fell pregnant".

Guess we both lucked out. Congratulations.

  17. Make that three... the guy I bought my pipe, shock and raceglass from used
that one, too... and, she did look a bit rounder than would be considered
normal... although, he could just have been too embarrassed to say that
she'd put her foot down and ordered him to sell the bike... can't blame him.
Actually, yes, I can; see "Wifey Suggests Selling Bike!" thread...

  18. maybe so.. but ive visited the new born and still keep in contact so either
way whether or not that was the true reason for the sale I believe I got
myself a good deal on the bike
