I would, but I'll be cruising around the South Pacific about that time, and will regretfully have to decline the
    invitation. :)

If you don't mind passing through the outskirts of Sydney (after coming down the Putty!), take Mulgoa Rd and follow it
down through Wallacia, and then down through The Oaks/Buxton etc to Mittagong, then through Bowral/Bundanoon etc to
Marulan. Only a few kays of the Hume, and you're turning off for Tarago. These roads don't have that much traffic
(certainly not compared to the Hume!), are very scenic and good quality, with loads of nice twisty bits as well. That's
the route I'll be taking on my way to the coast (with the obvious alteration of a left turn at Bowral to go through
Kangaroo Valley!). I haven't actually ridden it before, but it does come very highly recommended.

    (and no dirt!)

Yeah, in Sydney, at least, theres a real aversion to buying a "high mileage" japanese sportsbike, where "high mileage" seems to start at somewhere down around 4 or 5,000km a year.

A year?? You mean all up.. Had someoen look at my FZ once, with 12,000
on it they told me "its worn out mate"....

Yeah, there's also "stretching the truth as part of the bargaining
    process" to contend with...

thats the way im headed tomorrow , keeps away from the highway except for a
    tiny little bit
    and quite a good ride

So how do you proceed to root an engine? Is it by using high RPMs before the
engine is warm? Is it using high RPMs at all?

With the latest jap bikes having RPMs up to 14-15k, and the peak power
kicking in from above 9k, it's sort of _designed_ to use high RPMs isn't it?
If the new owner _never_ took it past 9k, I betchya a kikindanuts that
engine will have problems if it's been ridden like that for even 8k. That's
just my gut feel though, I have no scientific foundation for making that
statement at all. But that gut feel tells me something about pistons or
something, wearing them in properly so that it all kinda "fits" together.
[Gee, almost sound like a girl explaining a problem with her PC there.]

When I got my CBR250RR as a refurbished jap import at 11.5, the engine
didn't feel as good as it does now at around 24k. My fairing's got stone
chips all over but the bike runs great. I've been using its high revs (well
you pretty much fucking gotta) a lot, but never just after starting the
    bike.

I might just take Ian up on his idea and keep it in the family; my partner
(who got Ls just a few months ago) wants to step up from her 100cc scooter
to a sporty bike and I reckon the babyblade is a pretty ace learner just as
long as you get past the initial couple of weeks. Should be fine coming off
that scooter, it's heaps better than what I had when I was young which was a
speed restricted 50 kph Suzuki FZ-50; I never realised how utterly it sucked
until I tried my partner's Derby Atlantis.

Now, I just wonder if there are any stow-away trailers available ... and how
much it would cost to get a tailgate fitted to my 02 Honda Civic Hatch. :)

    FWIW.

Hmmm.. This gives me a few ideas. One being that I might as well trade in my
partner's scooter as my own babyblade when stepping up. Thanks mate :)
I've only got 3rd party on my babyblade. I keep an eye out after it and if I
**** up, well I'll bear the cost of fixing my own. Not too bad,
I suppose the bitch is knowing whether it has been well maintained or not...
Is this where full service history comes into play?

    Cheers,
