New Bike

  1. Hi all

Decided to buy an SV650 - have the cheque - pick up friday.

My wife suggested I keep the R80 as a project bike and do it up bit by bit
    as I get the money.
I said who are you? and what did you do with my wife?

Not a bad plan I have all the time in the world to do it - now all I need is
the workshop, tools, skill and cash.

  2. So you post to the ng saying "SV650 or Z750" and get 1/3 of the
responses saying "Z750", the next 1/3 saying "you're evil, fix the
Beemer" and the rest offering other alternatives none of which are
Suzuki, and you buy the SV650?

    Glad we could help.

I still want the R80 I'm just in a financial black-hole at the moment so
    I'm keeping quiet!

  5. No, you listened to your heart but don't believe the missus 'cause you both
know you'll never get around to it and Clem really needs an R80 to help his
    sanity!

  6. Well, it's not going anywhere - so let me know when - Pete's probably right
about me never getting around to it

Ouch, is it harsh week again already? :)

Hope you enjoy the SV. In a few months I'm looking to buy a new (or near
new) bike, and I'm thinking of an SV650S because

    a) I'd like a semi-faired or naked twin
    b) The price is right
    c) I'd like to have a crack at road racing, and they are allowed in the
"Formula 2" MCRCWA road racing class (due to lack of participation in
some classes, they merged 250 production 2-strokes, 125 GPs and added 4
strokes up to 650cc.. I thought it was only singles, but I noticed an SV
    in there).

The Z750 is without question faster and better handling but I'd take the
SV650 instead of the Z750 anyday too.

By choosing the twin despite all of this he is showing that he percieves
that elusive quality called 'character' :)

What's wrong with that? I always ask this group and then do the
opposite. More often than not, it turns out to be right...

25 years on and I still reckon that is the world's ugliest fairing design :)

If you live near Sydney, and don't mind second hand (and yellow), I can put
you in touch with the owner of a very well maintained one (never dropped,
either). Not mine, but a mate's. He's upgraded and needs to flog the SV
that's been sitting in his garage, virtually unused, for the last year. Not
sure what he'd take, I think he advertised at around $7.5k but didn't get
many nibbles, and obviously no sales. It has Staintunes, possibly a Ventura
rack and or bag (might be on the new bike now), but is basically standard,
with a little over 20,000 kms. Ummm... 2001 model? Located in the Blue
    Mountains.

If you turn over bikes that quickly when you're making the right choice
one can only speculate how long you'd keep your bikes if you made the
    wrong choices... days... hours ???

Quick check of my back catalogue of bikes reveals the bikes I've kept
the longest are also the ones I wouldn't buy again...

Arrgh; it's back to haunt me!!
My last XJ had one of those horrid "Hurricane" fairings. I almost crashed
on my first ride-to work when I bellied-it-out on a very mild lean-angle
and I think I removed it the first Saturday.
Mick GS1000S's mate wanted it though so I was very happy to see it leave!

  19. Yes, but which of the several similar models _did_ you buy again?

  20. I'll try to have a quick flick at the shops. Buggered if those bastards are
getting any more of my money until their publishing house stops spamming me
despite numerous repeated requests to ,
    and !
