New bike

    Blackbirds are extremely good bikes, so much so that they are too easy
    and even boring to ride at illegal speeds. As for pushing the envelope
    on one, the only time mine got marginally out of shape was when I
    deliberately locked the front wheel.

    It's much easier to find the edge of the Drifter's envelope, and ride
    on it where life is "interesting", and I don't even need to risk being
    caught for speeding. The footboards ground out early, and on some
    right-handers I even get part of the frame touching the tarmac. The
    lack of acceleration means overtakes need planning and quick
    reactions, and as for the brakes, I can lock up both wheels but
    Gertrude doesn't necessarily slow down much. She's a bit like a
    glacier.

    Luggage was difficult, but I've at last sourced a decent set so
    long-distance touring is now more practical.

    Having said that, the Drifter is comfortable, economical, easy to
    maintain, and tremendous fun.
