I wouldn't have thought the earth would matter once you revert to type
    and banger race it.

I want to be there the first time it goes out on the oval because I
reckon you'll be necklaced for being an animal.

That's a fucking bargain, I prefer the softer plusher ride and handling
of the S Types. I don't know why the Mk2 was and is so revered tbh,
when the S-Type makes a far better luxo sports/saloon car, especially
    in 3.8 MOD form.

Another reason I prefer the S-type is its rarity value, they made a
three times as many Mk2s as they did S-types.

It looks a shitload better than the S-type, and... Mike Hawthorn.

Nah, I prefer the smoother looking and longer booted S-Type, not that
the Mk2 looked bad though. I don't think Jaguar made a bad looking
saloon car in that era, but the E-type suffered at the hands of US law
from the Series 2 onwards. I don't have much love for any E-type that
has indicators below the bumper line and exposed headlights.

This is why S-Types are better...

There are some truly dreadful heaps of junk in that clip, the worst of
which is probably the Ford Mk4 Zephyr/Zodiac. The spare wheel was laid
flat under the bonnet in front of the engine. I new a guy who bought
several Ford trucks so they gave him a Zodiac as they couldn't sell
    them.

That isn't a problem, shorter bolts onto the mounting plate. Mount the
plate onto the body with rubber mountings (the ones with bonded threaded
studs either side of the rubber)
I'd estimate the fuel pumps would move about 1" to 1.5" out from the
body, don't know how tight things are.

Another way that'd take up even less room is to first enlarge the
original pump mounting holes in the bodywork to 1/2" or 1" dia, get a
piece of acrylic / plexi glass sheet large enough to mount the pumps
onto, bolt pumps to it in the same position they were mounted to the
body, and bolt the acrylic sheet to the body.

Mount sheet to the body so that the bolts holding the pumps to the sheet
align up with the (now oversized) original mounting holes.

Result is pumps moved out the thickness of the sheet (1/4" or so) and
the pumps are now electrically isolated from the body and you can wire
them up the way they need and still have a -ve body.

If the bodywork isn't a nice flat surface where the pumps are mounted,
the acrylic will be easy to form to the shape required with a little
    heat.

All you're doing is remounting the pumps so that the body of the pumps
is electrically isolated from the cars body, then its easy to connect
+ve to the pump body, -ve to the feed wire and still have -ve car body.

With suitably large warning stickers (and maybe plastic / vinyl
covering) on the pumps for thicko garage mechanics!

I was tempted to buy a 2.7 twin-turbo diesel when I opted out of the
company car scheme last year. Quick, refined, economical and cheap.

My Uncle Den had a white slim bumper 250 V8 when I lived in Trowbridge.
I used to love borrowing it to take my then girlfriend to a club called
Jason's in the grounds of Longleat Park.
