Just picked up my new car yesterday and was given a brochure that includes a
page on how to care for Motorcycle crash survivors with the rest of the
    paperwork.

It was published by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

On page 74 of November's Two Wheels, in the TAC-sponsored spiel about
touring in Victoria, there is the following:

"Motorists are often not looking for motorcyclists on the road. One of the
most common types of collision occurs when a driver pulls out directly in
front of a motorcyclist. Afterwards, they usually say they never even saw
the bike. This is why it's so important for riders to remember to: <edited>
-wear reflective clothing & have headlight on
    -be sober
    -ride defensively"

It's good to see the TAC blindly accepting that it's the rider's
responsibility to dress up like a christmas tree, but car drivers are not
expected to be able to use their eyes. The TAC is enshrining the "but I
didn't see him officer" excuse, presumably while using the $50 surcharge to
pay for such 'safety' advice. Victoria still hasn't moved far from the
"hard to see, easy to kill" days.

  3. I wonder if I'll get a brochure entitled "How to punch the
**** out of idiot cage drivers" when I pick up my new
    bike...?

Sounds like a great idea, or perhaps "Lane Splitting with Flair"

Sounds like you need a pre-planned response, you do!

Which should be read in conjunction with "How to avoid charges of unlawful

You get anything on motorcycle awareness on the road? Or do they just expect
them to go out knocking us over?

    Neo.

It would certainly work better than a post-planned one!

Yeah, well, since I wrote that, the local intelligentsia has decided to
release a strategy to reduce motorbike accident numbers (the numbers include
farm and off-road deaths, the solutions don't mention them).

Interested parties have two weeks to respond to the report.

No-one knows who will supply a copy of it.

A key issue is front identifiers. That will fix the problem of
four-year-olds being run over by their grandparents on ATV's on farms.

    What? This one?

The issue is being discussed in the MRA (Vic) forum. Apparently some of
the posters think that this Tas initiative should be considered by the
    Vic government,

I've downloaded it and will print it out and read it.

When I said 'a copy' I meant the hard-copy which the coppers were waving
around at their "press releases". I'd rather see what they've put in print
than what they put on a website.
