new dryrider not too waterproof

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Brett Danvers, Dec 15, 2003.

  1. My new dryrider extreme had its first real test yestrday arvo as I rode to
work in the Brisbane monsoon. It failed. I was wet from the left armpit
down! Not happy - if you spend $400 or so for wet weather gear you expect
    it to keep you dry.
I took it back to Noyes at Brendale. The first bloke said " I dunno I
think you have to send it back to the supplier" I asked him to find out
for sure, I then saw the manager who said "leave it with us, give us your
details and we will send it back and Dryrider will decide what to do." Not
having much choice I left it with them.
I complained about not having any wet weather gear until the problem is
sorted they offered to sell me some!

Have a sniff around www.consumer.gov.au for specific laws and regulations
regarding "fit for purpose". Then arm yourself with details of specific rules
and regs and return to the shop and demand a better outcome.

I gave up on Dririders, spend a few extra dollars and go for a Tiger Angel.

  7. I'm thinking of going back tomorrow and trying to get a refund or exchange.
Where would you get Tiger Angel gear in Bne?

I've been through monsoons (remember Indy weekend?) in my Dririder Nordic,
and came out completely dry. It doesn't breathe so its not the best in the
muggy weather we have right now, but in the wet its great.

Ditto, my DriRider Nordic 2 is absolutely 100% waterproof, unfortunately
its like wearing a black garbage bag in summer so I dusted off the
Brando style leather jacket I've had for years. Of course I immediately
rode through a torrential downpour on the F3, dried out by Gloucester,
rain at Barrington, nearly dry by Walcha, rain before Uralla...

    Hello Brett,

I have a Dryrider Extreme jacket and it to leaks. It takes a good down pour
but after about 30 mins I get a wet stomach and sleaves from the elbows
    down.

No, I'd had it for 12 months before I discovered the problem and was afraid
it was too late to take back. I've now had it for about 2 years.

Yeah, it's unbelievable the lack of knowledge of consumer rights out
there. The retailer is responsible for handling product defects,
warranty claims, etc. It's not up to you to send it to the supplier.

You should've asked for another one, if it failed to do its job. But
then, if they're (not "their or there") all the same then that wouldn't
    serve much purpose, I s'pose.

I've got a DriRider (Extreme, I think, but it's not written on it
anywhere) which works well. Spent 8 hours in the rain on a ride up to
Bright (NE Victorian town) a coupla years ago. Kept me dry. The DriRider
    gloves were useless, though.

  16. I went back to the bike shop yesterday, they had already sent it to the
supplier (also in Bne). Hopefully it won't take too long for a decision. I
also get wet up to the elbows but I figured it was because I wear wrist
length gloves not gauntlets and the rain is being forced up the sleeves.

  17. My dryrider winter gauntlets are the same. I bought a pair, the first heavy
rain my hands turned black. I took them back to the bike shop (leading
edge) who replaced them. Next heavy rain my hands turned black again. I
only wear them for about two weeks mid winter which is the driest time of
    the year.

    I wear Collins gauntlet gloves
    http://www.kencolvin.com.au/hotlist/dealerfrm.asp?hotlistID=5122&RetURL=../default.asp
and my arms still get wet. I think what may happen is when water hits the
waterproof shell just beneath the cordura it runs down my arm into my glove.
Then when my gloves are wet, the inner removable liner sucks it back up the
sleeve tampon style. A sales assistant at Peter Stevens in Melb suggested I
put my gloves on first and then the jacket, then wrestle with doing up the
zips. I haven't tried doing this so I can't say if it works. I think I get a
wet stomach because water leaks in through the front zip.

these to turned my hands jet black after being in the rain. To state the
obvious it's the black non colour fast die in the gloves running out. Mine
have stopped leaching now that most of the black die is out of the gloves
and the gloves have turned a faded dark grey. Whether more expensive winter
gloves do this or not I don't know. A good wash with soap and water after a
ride can normally get the die off my hands ok . Having black palms when
shaking hands can make for a socially awkward moment as the recipient try's
to work out what rare hand fungal disease you have :)
