New GG Bridge Speed Trap

Discussion in 'Bay Area Bikers' started by Chris Buckley, Nov 29, 2003.

  1. I have noticed that the CHP is now using blue uniformed officers on
bicycles equipped with radar guns and radios, they clock motorists and
then radio waiting/hiding CHP units to chase down the speeders.

Hmm. I guess the bicycles are new... Must be one of the new
    Governor's cost cutting measures.

I did see one of them the other day but didn't notice the radar gun. I
wonder if they are using laser or Ka wide like the motor units do.
I do know they sometimes hide someone running radar at the exits to the Mc
Arthur tunnel in those little notches. In fact I got ticketed by one a while
    back, but it was dismissed.:

  5. What ever they're using is a gun, connected by a coiled cord to some
device located in a backpack that is worn by the officer. So far I have
only seen them on the north end of the bridge, just before the "End of
special driving zone" sign. Whenever they have had the backpack wearing,
bicycle riding officers present, they have had motor units sitting out
of view on the first on-ramp, past the lookout point.
    Cheers,

  6. the guys in dark blue with the bikes might not be CHP, they might be GG
    Transit Police.

  7. That was my thought as well, however it makes no difference, they're
still clocking speeders and alerting the CHP.

In this scenario I would guess that both officers would have to appear in
    court.

Mostly gross incompetence on the part of the officer.

First it took them almost 6 months to decide which jurisdiction would handle
the ticket. I finally got a notice to appear.
I asked for and receieved two continuances.
I requested from Caltrans a recent "traffic and engineering" report on the
    roadway I was ticketed on.
I requested from the CHP a copy of the report and officer's notes pertaining
to the ticket, some documentation regarding the make of the radar detector
and some supporting document that it was approved for use by the CHP, proff
that the officer had recieved adequate training to operate the radar unit,
and that it was recently calibrated.
I used registered/receipt request mail for the correspondence.

I didn't receive any of the afforementioned documetation from either agency
by the day of my hearing so I was prepared to request dismissal on the
grounds that I was not provided with any evidence to support my defense.
That all proved to be moot.
After 2 hours of waiting for my "line" to come up, after watching the
officer talking , smirking and chatting with his buddies while the judge
worked through the various cases we finally were at the moment of truth.
The judge asked for the officer's report...
The officer looked for something in his messy pile of papers, then turned
back to the judge and said "Do we need to have it?"
The judge replied with the words ," Line 16, dismissed ".
    I left.

Im sure it will work for them....but not in court... the traffic is
usually too dense and in both directions to get anything close to a clean
radar read, especially from an angle. Take those tickets to court and read
up on those issues and you should win, expecially if you ask for a jury
trial...the court does not want the people educated....they just want the
    money.

Kinda makes a man want to get clocked difting the turn off the bridge with
the front wheel up 6" going up the hill.... I wonder if they have back
ups stationed on the other side of the tunnel before the Sausalito turn off
or one of them sneakly little side roads that goes down into town from the
    high ground. Nah... they dont.

Ya,,,well you wouldnt have that problem if you more SEDATELY.

Do you know what I did Saturday? N00000ooooo ... Ok I will tell you.
The cult of scientology was having its grand opening at its super classy new
location in San Francisco,,, just two blocks down columbus from the Condor
and Hungry Eye strip clubs and directly across the street from the
spectacular Trans America Pyramid... I was impressed. They had about 30
SFPD officers for security and that many cult members with video cameras...
I arrived with 400 expose fliers, and a picket sign.

Maybe Doc W was there too but I dint see him...his Stevens Creek mission
people arrived in an ultra long stretch limo just as I got there and before
the scientology OSA people could get thier security contingent me.... I must
say, those misson staff members looked *good... the young ladies dressed to
KILL... Enough to turn me into a Pink fan.

Now that was a stunningly wonderful spiritual experience.... and a first in
critic / cult thug history. We MADE FRIENDS! Now did that stop them from
going nutz when John Sasaki from Channel 2 nooz came to interview me?
No..... John was spectaclar in person....and man with true class and....err
gonads. He interviewed me on camera and man was I lucky, I had dressed to
the nines for the occasion, Nice leather sport coat,,, my hair was looking
*good...and I had a fresh shave....what more could a man ask. There were
definitely tremors in the force. Held a sign with the following on it
    during the interview XENU.NET
    a Margaret Singer
    memorial picket.

Then guess what? I had been inviting thier head intelligence officer for N
calif, Jeff Quiros out for dinner for 3 years and he was never able to
go...so I told these guys how that had been saddening... and you know they
said they would make it up to me....I asked them to dinner and we went and
talked for an hour about the sorts of things I post occasionally to the NG
and flat tracking...and how a good man lives and dies with honor etc.

Obeone had met Darth vader and force was unmistakable as they looked from
the death star at some real horsepower., some if it thier own not latent any
longer... they violated all of thier OSA training to avoid the issues and
asked me questions they and listened when I answered.

the complete picket report is posted to alt.religion.scientology last
nite by me... skip the 'summary' post that has typos, the report an hour
later includes more and without the typo's... that was one hell of an
    amazingly stellar experience.

The SFPD sergant in charge of preventing trouble handed me his card and we
talked for half an hour, his face glowed and he lit up like a christmas tree
as I answered his questions about why a man takes a stand....then we
discussed flat tracking and he introduced me to his partner a young
    lady,,,both dirt bikers.

It was an amazing day,,,, truly. I didnt get home in time to see if the
interview aired and what they chose to cut or not cut from it.

  17. Does the CHP have bicycle patrols? Only a few stretches of freeways
in the Bay Area permit them.

And the bicyclist can't just radio ahead, and remove himself from the
event, can he? Like with helicoptor clockings, both officers need to
    show up in court.

In any event, given the history on the Golden Bridge since that nut
crossed over the median and killed a lady, it seems prudent to go the
45 for the short stretch that is covered. You can always speed up
afterwards. (or are there common speed traps on the Marin side we should
    all know?)

  18. yeah. Marin County. All of it. I think the entire stretch of 101 is 55
now, at least til somewheres north of where I usually get off. The county
is so full of geriatrics that they'll probably be lowering it to 45 some
    day.
